Have you ever had acupuncture and wonder how it works? The chi, life energy circulates through our plasmic biofield. According to my psychic friend she sees a web of meridians hovering beyond the skin and the points are where the whorls of chi cycle in and out. Trying to imagine a microview of a miasma being released from the needling.

There is an intelligence in the body that nobody installed.

It knows how to regulate temperature, calm a racing heart, rebuild tissue in the dark hours of sleep. It has been doing this, without instruction, since before you took your first breath.

In biomedical terms we call it homeostasis. In Chinese medicine the name for the forces that make that possible are Yin & Yang. These are not good and evil or opposites at war. They are two parts of the same whole, a continuous conversation. The spark and what sustains it, the fire and the substance it burns clean.

Modern science calls parts of this conversation the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Ancient medicine called it Yin & Yang. While the language is different the concepts underlying are the same.

Yang is the spark — ATP firing, Metabolism, gut motility, muscle contraction, the body mobilizing to meet to the world.

Yin is what makes the spark possible — blood, lymph fluids, tissue, cerebrospinal fluids, hormones, and the rest where the body rebuilds.

When that balance breaks down from too much “go” and not enough rest it sends signals. Symptoms are not malfunctions, they are a system asking to be heard.

Swipe though to see what it looks like, how it happens, what that means for how you feel every day, and some tips to help restore balance. 🌱

If any of this resonates — you’ve been tired but wired, running on fumes, caffeine and a dream, unable to fully land….this is the work we do. Come find us. ✨

Hi, I'm Dr. Nicole! I founded Rooted Axis because I wanted to practice medicine the way I believe it should be practiced, and because people deserve better care than "we don't know what's wrong with you" or "all your labs look normal."
I'm a Doctor of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, and this practice is built for people with complex, hard-to-place conditions; the ones that don't fit neatly into one box. Spoiler: all those weird symptoms that don't seem related? They usually are. 🌿

My approach is rooted in classical Chinese medicine and informed by modern clinical understanding. I specialize in cases where pain, stress, digestion, sleep, and hormonal health are all tangled up together — with a particular focus on women's health.

Treatment plans are built around acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, and lifestyle modifications — because what you eat, how you live, and how you move & rest are all part of the picture. In a world that rewards pushing through, I believe prioritizing nervous system regulation is its own act of resistance, and that's the kind of medicine I choose to practice. Healing is not always linear. But it is possible. At the heart of it all: helping the body recalibrate — not override — its own intelligence.

When I'm not in the clinic, I'm usually somewhere in the backcountry with my dog and son: hiking, foraging, rock climbing, and finding beautiful places to eat snacks.

If you've been looking for someone to finally piece it together, I'd love to meet you! Drop a comment below or send us a message to get started. 💚👇

From the biochemistry lab to the acupuncture clinic — Blue's path to the healing arts is one we love to share. 🌱

After earning a degree in Biochemistry from Huntingdon College, Blue found that the missing piece in conventional medicine was the whole person. That realization sparked a journey into acupuncture and integrative care, and our patients are better for it.

Today, Blue works with people navigating some of life's most challenging health conditions: chronic Lyme disease, PTSD, IBS, and neuropathy. As a martial arts enthusiast, Blue also has a deep passion for sports medicine and men's health — helping athletes and active individuals perform and recover at their best.

We're so glad Blue is part of our team!

Just like bamboo, the Wood element teaches us to bend without breaking.🎋
This spring, honor your body's need to grow and move freely. Nourish yourself with greens, fresh air, and intentional rest.

🌿 Rise with the Wood Season | Spring & Chinese Medicine 🌿

"As nature pushes upward and outward in spring, so does the energy of the Wood element — calling us to grow, plan, and release what no longer serves."

🌱 The Organ Systems of Spring 🌱

In Chinese Medicine, spring belongs to the Liver ( Gān) and Gallbladder (Dǎn) - the paired organs of the Wood element.
The Liver stores blood, ensures the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body, governs our tendons and ligaments, and rules our emotional world - especially our relationship with frustration, anger, and visionary thinking.
The Gallbladder governs courage, clear decision-making, and the ability to act on our plans. Together, these two organs thrive when we live in flow and struggle when we stagnate.

🥗 Diet Tips for Spring 🥗
✦ Eat light, green, and lightly cooked: dandelion greens, sprouts, pea shoots, watercress, and fresh herbs are all wonderful choices.
✦ Embrace the sour flavor: lemon, lime, apple cider vinegar, and fermented foods gently stimulate and support Liver Qi.
✦ Include liver-loving foods: beets, artichokes, turmeric, milk thistle tea, and bitter greens.
✦ Choose warming, lightly seasoned meals: steaming and quick stir-frying honor the season's rising energy.
✦ Minimize greasy, fried, and processed foods, which place an extra burden on the Liver and Gallbladder.
✦ Reduce or avoid alcohol- your Liver is working hard this season and deserves your support.

🧘 Movement & Rest:
✦ Prioritize sleep during the Liver and Gallbladder hours (11pm–3am). This is when these organs do their deepest work.
✦ Move gently and consistently: qi gong, tai chi, yoga, and walks in nature are ideal in spring
✦ Stretch your tendons and sinews daily. The liver governs these tissues, and movement keeps Qi from stagnating
✦ Spend time outdoors in fresh air and natural light to align with the Wood element's upward, expansive nature

Emotional & Mental Wellbeing:
✦ Release frustration before it takes root. Journal, talk it out, or move your body to free stuck Qi.
✦ Practice flexibility and patience: the Wood element teaches us to bend like bamboo, not break.
✦ Spring is the season of vision: set intentions, make plans, and allow yourself to dream forward.
✦ Rest your eyes and limit screen time; the eyes are the sense organ of the Liver and need care too

Signs your Wood element may need attention:
Irritability · Temple headaches · Tight neck & shoulders · Irregular digestion · PMS or cycle changes · Eye strain · Trouble making decisions · Waking between 1–3am

🌿 Wood Element Affirmation 🌿
"I move with ease and clarity. My Qi flows freely, and I grow toward the light, rooted, flexible, and alive.”
