Participants in this class will be expected to register for the associated Jazz Ensemble to be offered in Spring 2025.
We may also be offering a ukulele class on Saturdays this semester. Please check the box on the form for more info if we can make this happen. (We have ukuleles to loan)

MYOCA Scrollworks - Summer 2024 Summer Music Lessons Update on Summer 2024 (as of 6/2): Registration will end Friday, June 7 at noon. If you have submitted your form, you are 'penciled in' to the schedule. You will be notified of your lesson time later this week. Due to demand we'll do the following as group classes:
Scrollworks teachers like a full schedule and we like to keep them happy. Since the semester has already started, we're offering any remaining private string, winds, percussion and piano lesson spots for $60. This offer ends Monday, 2/5 at 4 pm.
We hired Tyler Carroll, a percussion major at UAB, at the last minute and did not get much of a chance to promote that specialty for this spring. Tyler is full of enthusiasm and energy and wants to teach MORE students. (He can teach drum set in addition to orchestral percussion, if that's your preference.)
Because of changing teacher availability, we had an abundance of piano lessons available going into registration and still have some openings left. This is the first semester in ages where we've had any piano openings open after the semester started!
Both Monday evenings and Saturday have openings for violin, piano and percussion instruments. (Tyler's Saturday morning is full, but he has some openings in the afternoon.)

Dwight Houston, longtime friend of Scrollworks explained the origins of gospel style and music theory, including ALL the scales during his workshop at our gospel fest on May 6.
At our ensemble concert on May 7, Abram (student/teacher/admin) conducted our orchestra in his arrangement of the William Tell Overture Finale. So much here that defines our music program. On percussion is Sam Herman who has been teaching for us for more than 10 years and is amazing. This was Nicholas' first semester fully participating in the orchestra on his cello...and he clearly loves it. We are so lucky to have Dane Lawley teaching winds--a real treasure. In the background, the Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir looks on. What an inspiration for our young musicians. And St. Paul UMC Birmingham,AL - a building that breathes history and reminds us every day of the importance of character and community. So grateful for the participation of everyone in this photo--and all those not shown.
Rayah presented flowers to Annie Joe Edwards after her talk on nurturing one's creativity and how to find inspiration for one's art at the workshop session of our gospel fest on May 6 at St. Paul UMC Birmingham,AL and supported by the City of Birmingham Community Arts Grant Program. Jeane Goforth conveyed the appreciation of Scrollworks and St. Paul UMC Birmingham,AL for Annie Joe's participation.
