McWane Science Center

The biggest complaint would be so many of the exhibits still don't work after several years of us having annual memberships. In comparison to TN Children's Museum (Chattanooga) and GA's in Atlanta, McWane could do so much better. Everything is the same old thing and non-working exhibits are a real drag to the kids and parents. And these exhibits have NOTHING to do with COVID. They've been broken for years! I think every kid from our party wanted to be in Itty Bitty Magic City. They seriously were not very interested in too many other areas because so many areas had non-working items. If the staff worked as hard on maintaining working exhibits or bring in some fresh new ones as they do on sanitizing during the coronavirus (Which they really did a good job) the McWane Center would really be a great place to go a couple of times a month like it once was. #repairexhibits #bringinsomefreshideas #itneedslifeagain
Will memberships be extended by the number of weeks the museum is required to be closed? I havenโ€™t seen anything regarding this.
How much is it to get it
Gas mask
Would this hold a10 year old attention?
Will yโ€™all have any kind of Black Friday sale on your membership costs?
When do Star Wars episode 9 tickets go on sale ๐Ÿ‘€
We love this center but we had a terrible experience at customer service today! :( We have a membership at facility that is approved for reciprocal use and we live more than 90 miles away from McWane, but upon arrival we were told that our โ€œcountyโ€ was within the 90 mile radius and they would not accept our pass... even though we have used this same pass here many times in the past. The manager we spoke with was rude, unclear in her conversation with us (at one point saying that the center we did have a membership with shouldnโ€™t have sold it to us), and unwilling to discuss in a professional manner. She also refused to allow us to speak to someone else to try and understand better. We drove almost two hours with 5 kids and we were treated very poorly by this colleague. At the end of the conversation she said we could become members there, and somehow that didnโ€™t inversely effect the radius issue. We love McWane but after this experience would be only LESS likely to consider membership with you. โ˜น๏ธ Such an unfortunate experience and could have been handled so much better.
Are there going to be homeschool days this year?
One great pic! Thought y'all might want!
So... What are the chances of getting Avengers Endgame at the Imax?
This looks amazing!!

Happy Arbor Day!๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒท

In honor of the last few days of April we celebrate Arbor Day and our final Citizen Science project! Arbor Day is a national holiday created to recognize the importance of trees. Here at McWane we decided to celebrate by taking a trip to Oak Mountain to practice tree and leaf identification with the help of the TreeSnap app! The TreeSnap app is a means for participants to record the location and health of particular tree species of interest. Scientists use the collected information to locate candidates for genetic sequencing and breeding programs.

Check our our stories to see how we used TreeSnap at Oak Mountain๐ŸŒค๐ŸŒฟ

ScienceAtHome wants to know how the brain works, and one of the best ways to study thinking, remembering, and learning is through video games. So gamers and want-to-be gamers, join McWane Science Center on this Citizen Science adventure and help the science community better understand the normal development of various cognitive skills.

So what is your gaming superpower? Have you ever thought about what makes you special as a gamer? Is your mind super-sharp? Do you have quick and creative problem-solving skills? Are you good at remembering? Skill Lab: Science Detectives wants to know. Skill Lab: Science Detective is a collection of minigames with a detective story theme that challenges your mind in different ways. The game enables you to test your gaming brain skills against yourself and other people. In this process, ScienceAtHome can generate a cognitive player profile of your gaming skills at different levels.

What will they do with this information you ask? Great question! They will make better more engaging educational games. But, they could also use this information to identify and understand common cognitive challenges and learn how to mediate in the early stages to prevent long-term impact.

Sparking wonder and curiosity about our world through hands-on science

20 Year of McWane Science Center McWane Science Centerโ€™s mission is to โ€œspark wonder and curiosity about our world through hands-on science.โ€ To accomplish this mission, McWane Science Center combines unique assets to create hands-on, science-learning experiences parents and teachers value and kids love. Explorers โ€” from ages 1 to 100 โ€” flock year-round to see, to hear, to touch and to experience the wonder of science in one of the Southโ€™s most unique venues. McWane Science Center has a number of permanent exhibits that are a regular part of the science education experience. These include Itty Bitty Magic City, Explore! Collections Center, Alabama Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters, NatureScope, Fox 6 Weather Lab, Science on a Sphere, High Cycle, World of Water Aquarium, Shark and Ray Touch Tank, and the John W. Woods IMAX Dome Theater. McWane Science Center does not just focus on science, we strive to inspire children through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and we believe great STEM learning involves inquisition. Students are not learning through lecture at McWane Science Center; they are learning by doing, asking questions, creating their own hypothesis, testing and re-thinking their own ideas and beliefs.
