β˜€οΈ Enjoy these last few cooler mornings β€” heat and humidity will start building into Alabama's weather forecat this weekend..

It's cool now, but tomorrow morning (Friday) will be the coolest for a while. Upper 40s to lower 50s early tomorrow, but that changes fast.

A mostly sunny Thursday pushes us into the mid-to-upper 70s this afternoon with a light breeze. Soak it in.

Friday takes us back to the 80s (still dry) after the cool start. That's it. After Friday, the door to early summer swings wide open.

🌑️ Your 7-day at a glance:
Thursday: 76Β° β€” Sunny & mild, chilly start
Friday: 82Β° β€” Chilly morning, warm afternoon
Saturday: 86Β° β€” Partly sunny, noticeably warmer
Sunday: 87Β° β€” Hot & more humid
Monday: 89Β° β€” Hot & humid (10% rain chance)
Tuesday: 90Β° β€” Isolated storms possible (20%)
Wednesday: 88Β° β€” Scattered storms possible (40%)

A strong high parked off the East Coast next week puts Alabama on the Gulf side of the flow β€” that means tropical moisture pumping northward, soaring humidity, and heat indices that could feel well above the actual temperature.

🌧️ Meanwhile, the drought clock is ticking. Birmingham is already pushing toward being 2" on rainfall behind for May and 3 inches short for the year. If we stay dry through midweek as expected, the annual deficit grows to roughly 4.3 inches β€” about an entire month of missing rainfall heading into summer. Dry soil will also let temps run 10-15Β° hotter than we've seen so far this month.
There's a better rain chance by next Wednesday, but drought relief? Not yet.

I finally reached my breaking pointβ€”the dog food I used to get for $40 has jumped up to $60! Instead of paying more for the same old kibble, I decided to see if I could put that money toward something better.

I picked up all of this for $70. Earlier today, I made up a fresh batch using:

β€’ πŸ₯© Ground beef & chicken liver
β€’ πŸ₯• Carrots & sweet potatoes
β€’ 🍚 Rice
β€’ 🍳 A fresh egg

If I can give them higher-quality, "real" food for roughly the same price as the processed stuff, it’s a total win. I’m curious to see if they seem more energetic or if their coats look better after a few weeks.

I’ll keep you all posted on how the "paws-on" cooking goes! 🐢πŸ₯˜

Do you have any favorite dog-friendly "superfoods" or tips for making the transition to fresh food easier? Any veterinary tips for the best foods to ensure they get what they need?

This is just tragic. Pray for this family.

Such a heartbreaking story. Ada Doss, 27, was leaving the hospital during a shift change at about 4 p.m. when Matthew James Taylor, 41, approached her with a gun and tried to take her purse, according to Tuscaloosa deputies. She was shot and immediately died.
Deputies said another witness and videos show that Taylor had tried to assault another person just moments before, but they were able to drive away.

Taylor was dropped off at the hospital earlier in the day and reported that "he needed help," according to deputies. He didn't go inside and began roaming the campus before the assaults.

Deputies are investigating how he got the gun.

Finally a little rain in the forecast again?

I'll be straight with you here - I'm skeptical. We just don't have a guaranteed shot at a significant rain for the next 5-6 days, and even out there toward day 7 (Wednesday) and on through Memorial Day (can you believe it's almost here?) there's just nothing that I feel really confident about in promising rain.

Optimistic? Yeah - for some rain. Confident? No way.

Alabama’s weather forecast over the next few nights?

Near perfect Spring weather. Crisp, cool, clear and dry. Great for catching your breath with a view of the sky.

These are some of the things you’d see tonight if you take the time to look up! ⬆️

β˜€οΈ Enjoy the next few days, Alabama β€” summer is coming fast.

A weak front slides through today with nothing but a wind shift and a gentle northwest breeze. No rain, no clouds, no drama β€” just a breezy, warm afternoon in the lower 80s.

Thursday morning will be our coolest of the stretch β€” upper 40s to lower 50s β€” with a beautiful sunny afternoon in the upper 70s. Enjoy it. That kind of weather won't be back for a while.

Friday morning delivers one last taste of spring β€” lows in the 40s and 50s β€” before sunshine pushes us back into the 80s by afternoon. After that, the pattern flips.

🌑️ The 7-day breakdown:

Wednesday: 82Β° β€” Breezy & warm, WNW breeze 10-15 mph
Thursday: 77Β° β€” Chilly morning (upper 40s/low 50s), sunny afternoon
Friday: 83Β° β€” Mostly sunny & warm, chilly start
Saturday: 88Β° β€” Heating up, still dry
Sunday: 89Β° β€” Hot & more humid
Monday: 90Β° β€” Hot & humid
Tuesday: 91Β° β€” Hot, isolated storms possible
A large area of high pressure will anchor itself off the East Coast early next week, putting Alabama squarely on the humid side β€” pumping Gulf moisture northward and keeping the heat locked in.

🌧️ The drought picture isn't improving. Birmingham is already running about 1.44 inches below normal for May and 3 inches below normal for the year. If we stay dry through the middle of next week β€” which looks likely β€” the monthly deficit grows to roughly 2.7 inches and the yearly deficit climbs to about 4.3 inches. That's close to an entire month's worth of rainfall already missing from our water budget heading into summer.

There is some hope on the medium-range maps for rain toward the middle and end of next week β€” but the best chance may end up west of Alabama. Better odds? Maybe. Clear drought relief? Not quite yet.

Do you like donut holes?

We're going to be inside one it appears!

Most of Alabama will not get significant rain (don't read that as no rain at all) through the middle of next week if this pattern sets up like I think it will.

That big plume of heavier rain west of us? It MIGHT shift this way, but I wouldn't count on it.

The drought is going to get drought-ier.

This is one of those days I look forward to all year, and it was even better with my own mini-me helper! We did experiments with dry ice, water, and a lot of other things to learn about Alabama weather, storms and the forecast at Oak Mountain Intermediate School today!

Tag a parent or friend if you spot their Fourth Grader!

I had the best assistant this morning for Science Career Day at Oak Mountain Intermediate School! We had over 300 4th graders in the cafeteria for some weather fun using dry ice, water and other cool stuff!

The storms are officially gone, and a nearly 10-day dry stretch is building across Alabama! β˜€οΈπŸ™Œ But heads upβ€”the heat is coming right along with it. πŸ“ˆπŸ”₯

The rest of your week at a glance:

Tuesday: Partly sunny and comfortable. 🌀️ Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Wednesday: A mild morning before the front arrives. 🌑️ Low-to-mid 80s with a SSW breeze at 10-15 mph. πŸ’¨

Thursday: The front pushes through! 🌬️ Breezy from the NNE and that humidity drops hard. Upper 70s to low 80s. πŸ“‰

Friday: One of the nicest mornings of the week! β˜• Some of us will even drop into the upper 40s. Mostly sunny and low-to-mid 80s. 😎

Saturday: The air starts to change. πŸ₯΅ Hotter and more humid. Upper 80s.

Sunday: Feeling like June! β˜€οΈ Upper 80s to low 90s.

Monday: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid. πŸ”₯ Low 90s.

THE OUTLOOK: πŸ—ΊοΈ
No significant rain is in the forecast from the Tennessee border to the Gulf Coast through at least the middle of next week. 🚫🌧️ The drought recovery we made last week will slowly slip away as the heat builds.

Enjoy those cool mornings while they last! 🧊 By the weekend, summer is back in a big way. πŸ–οΈβ˜€οΈ
