A properly sized drain system makes all the difference.
In this setup, the toilet connects to a 4-inch main drain while the bathroom sink ties into a 2-inch branch line through a P-trap. Using the correct pipe sizes, maintaining proper slope, and following basic plumbing principles helps improve drainage performance and reduces the risk of clogs.
Small details in drain design can prevent big problems down the road.

Is the wall pipe always the P-trap connection? 🤔
Alright, trying to tackle this new sink install myself because I can't seem to get a plumber out here, it's pretty far out of the way. I've got a 2-inch pipe coming from the bottom and a 1 1/2-inch pipe out of the wall.

I just fired my plumber and now he's threatening to sue me. He installed a bare copper pipe directly in the dirt and insisted that's "standard practice." Maybe I'm not a plumber, but I've always been told soil can corrode copper over time unless it's properly sleeved or wrapped. When I questioned it, he demanded $5,000 for the job and called me a "Karen" for wanting the pipe protected. I refused to pay until the issue is addressed, and now apparently I'm the bad guy. Am I missing something here, or would this raise red flags for you too?

Handle replacement
Hopefully someone can help identify this brand of faucet based on the image. I can't find it anywhere. The faucet works great however the handle broke and I don't want to start buying "universal" handles that I suspect won't fit.

TO whoever designed old home plumbing systems with ONE shutoff for an ENTIRE BLOCK — respectfully, what kind of madness was this?
My main shutoff valve is leaking and appears to be held together by rust, corrosion, and a spiritual agreement between the pipes not to explode simultaneously.

TO whoever thought burying critical plumbing components inside an impossibly cramped wall cavity was a good design choice — absolutely incredible work.
I’m trying to replace the dead main shutoff and pressure reducing valve in our newly purchased house and there’s roughly enough room to work in there for one raccoon-sized mechanic arm.

It’s all about the details—especially the ones you’ll never see again. 🛠️🧱 People always ask why the basement stays so dry; this is why. Taking the time to properly insulate, waterproof, and install a dedicated drainage system around the perimeter is a lot of back-breaking work, but it’s the best "insurance policy" for a home. From the rigid insulation to the precise pipe alignment, everything is locked in and ready for backfill.

This is what happens when a slow leak goes unchecked. Time to replace the trap
