A statewide art and slogan competition about litter for high school students??? Yep — and it’s launching this upcoming school year! 🎨♻️ We are SO excited to see the creativity students across Mississippi bring to the table!

If you’re selected as one of the seven regional winners, your artwork could be featured on billboards across Mississippi, promoted through multiple media outlets, AND included in a traveling art exhibit touring the state. How cool is that?!

Start getting those creative ideas flowing! Learn more about litter, explore the competition details, and find your regional hub at msucoastal.com/artdoingitspart/.

📅 Artwork submissions are due October 23, 2026, to your regional hub.
(Homeschooled students are encouraged to enter!!!)
Ready to make art that makes an impact? Let’s see Mississippi students show how Art Does Its Part! 🎨✨

This past Saturday, we kicked off Sand Jam with a successful beach cleanup! 🌊♻️ With the help of 31 volunteers, we removed 115 pounds of trash from Pascagoula.

Top 5 items collected:
• Glass pieces – 273
• Cigarette butts – 205
• Plastic pieces – 203
• Cigar tips – 76
• Plastic bottle caps – 73

After the cleanup, we joined the fun at Sand Jam, where we hosted an outreach table, gave away native plants, and shared information about the coastal conservation work happening through our MSU Extension Office (Coastal Conservation and Restoration Program)and the Mississippi Sound Program (Mississippi Sound Estuary Program). We also connected with community members about ways to get involved, from supporting local conservation initiatives to joining future cleanup efforts. Thank you to everyone who helped make a difference for our coast!
