There's a strange pattern I've noticed among some of the strongest women in West Texas.

The more people depend on them...

the less likely they are to make time for themselves.

Business owners.

Teachers.

Nurses.

Mothers.

Women who quietly carry households, teams, schedules, responsibilities, and expectations.

They're often the first to show up for everyone else.

And the last to show up for themselves.

What fascinates me is that exhaustion has become so normalized that many people no longer recognize it.

They call it responsibility.

They call it work ethic.

They call it being strong.

But sometimes strength isn't carrying more.

Sometimes strength is knowing when to stop carrying everything.

I've lost count of how many women have sat down, taken ninety uninterrupted minutes for themselves, and said the exact same thing afterward:

"I didn't realize how much I needed this."

Not because of the lashes.

Not because of the facial.

Not because of the pedicure.

But because for a brief moment...

nobody needed anything from them.

No emails.

No deadlines.

No customers.

No children.

No expectations.

Just stillness.

And in a world that constantly demands more from women, that may be one of the rarest luxuries left.

Which brings me to a question:

Is exhaustion really a sign of strength...

or have we simply normalized being overwhelmed?

Curious what Big Spring thinks.

Can somebody explain something to me?

How is every restaurant packed, every parking lot full, every store busy…

but somehow every business owner I know is still saying it’s slow?

I’m starting to think there’s a secret meeting in Big Spring that I’m not invited to.

A beautiful set of nails has never been about polish.

It is about the quiet confidence that follows.

The feeling of looking down at your hands and seeing that someone took the time to create something thoughtful, precise, and entirely your own.

In a world increasingly built around speed, we still believe certain things deserve craftsmanship.

The rain showed up uninvited.
Good thing she did too.
Not every day requires practicality.
Some days require pink nails, oversized confidence, and decisions that make absolutely no financial sense.
Those tend to be the memorable ones.

✨ Not everyone has their lashes done by Tony—and that’s perfectly alright.

Some women simply haven’t found their lash artist yet.

A beautiful set of nails changes more than people think.

Not because anyone else notices.

Because you do.

You notice it when you reach for your coffee.

When you type on your laptop.

When you glance down at your hands during a busy day.

There is something quietly satisfying about feeling polished, put together, and cared for.

This timeless French almond set remains one of our most requested looks for a reason:

THE WOMEN WHO HOLD WEST TEXAS TOGETHER

West Texas is a landscape defined by motion.

Engines turning before dawn.

Long roads stretching toward the horizon.

Shifts that begin in darkness and end long after sunset.

The rhythm of a region that rarely pauses.

Yet beneath that visible machinery exists another architecture entirely.

Quieter.

Less celebrated.

No less essential.

Behind countless front doors are women carrying the invisible weight of keeping life in motion.

Holding families together.

Holding routines together.

Holding entire worlds together while the days move relentlessly forward.

The work is rarely announced.

The effort is rarely seen.

And the responsibility rarely stops.

Perhaps that is why stillness has become such a rare luxury.

Not because it is indulgent.

But because it is necessary.

The quiet restoration of a facial.

The deliberate precision of a manicure.

The unhurried rhythm of a pedicure.

The gentle pause of a lash appointment.

Not as acts of vanity,

but as rituals of return.

A way back to oneself.

A fixed point in a landscape defined by constant movement.

Outside, West Texas continues its endless rhythm.

The roads remain busy.

The oil fields continue their work.

The world keeps turning.

But for a little while, the world continues without asking anything of you.

No one needs an answer.

No one needs a decision.

No one needs your attention.

For a brief moment, your time belongs entirely to you.

And perhaps that is one of the rarest luxuries of all.

THE WOMAN AND THE LUCKY CAT

There is a lucky cat sitting quietly at the front desk of Highland Lounge.

Most people assume these little porcelain figures exist for one reason.

To attract more business.

More customers.

More movement.

More activity.

More.

The older we get, the more we wonder if that is actually what most women need.

Because many of the women who walk through our doors already have more.

More responsibilities.

More people depending on them.

More messages waiting.

More decisions requiring attention.

More pressure than anyone around them fully realizes.

Somewhere along the way, success became attached to constant motion.

The woman answering emails during lunch.

The woman returning calls in parking lots.

The woman scheduling tomorrow while still trying to survive today.

The woman who has become so efficient at carrying life that nobody notices how heavy it has become.

Not even herself.

Perhaps that is why we keep the lucky cat.

Not because it reminds us to chase more.

But because it reminds us that there is another form of wealth.

The ability to sit still without feeling guilty.

The ability to exist without producing.

The ability to allow the world to continue spinning for a little while without your supervision.

Outside these walls, West Texas moves fast.

Inside, nothing is chasing you.

Nobody needs your productivity.

Nobody needs a decision.

Nobody needs an answer.

For the next little while, your only responsibility is to do what the cat has been doing all along.

Sit.

Breathe.

And let the world figure itself out without you.

An interruption from the velocity of modern life.

Photos from Highland Lounge's post 05/30/2026

They say travel changes people.

I think it simply reminds us who we are.

A few quiet days at home.
Good food.
Busy streets.
Familiar faces.

The kind of things you don’t realize you’ve missed until you’re standing in the middle of them again.

I’ll be heading back to Texas soon and will be back behind the treatment bed Monday morning.

Thank you for your patience while I was away.

I look forward to seeing you all again.

🤍

A LETTER TO MAY: YOU CAN LET GO NOW

There is something very specific about May in West Texas.

The month does not gently pass by.
It kicks the front door open and starts rearranging your nervous system.

One minute your calendar looks manageable.

The next minute you are surviving on caffeine, dry shampoo, unanswered texts, and pure female resilience.

School events.
Schedule changes.
Summer planning.
Extra spending.
People needing things from you every five seconds for reasons that honestly could have waited until tomorrow.

And somehow women still walk into public looking completely composed.

That part deserves scientific research.

Because privately?

A lot of women are one minor inconvenience away from driving to Target just to sit alone in the parking lot for an hour.

You start multitasking through meals.
You answer emails while stopped at red lights.
Your shoulders stay tense even during “relaxing” moments.

And by the end of May, many women are no longer craving excitement.

They are craving relief.

Not luxury in the flashy sense.
Not another crowded event.
Not another loud restaurant where everyone pretends to be having fun.

Just one quiet hour where nobody is asking anything from them.

Honestly, that may be the real luxury now.

Which is part of why Highland Lounge exists.

Not to feel trendy.
Not to impress people online.

But to create a small interruption from the constant noise women are expected to absorb every day without complaint.

A slower room.
Lower voices.
No performance required.

Just enough stillness for a woman to remember she is a person before she is everyone else’s emergency contact.

May was a lot.

You survived it beautifully.

Now let your shoulders drop a little before summer arrives.
