Perspective | Fear not, parents: Your middle kids are going to be just fine. 07/08/2019

Timely perspective for me. We just spent about 5 days alone in the house with our usually chill middle child. Sometimes we worry about him (he often seems "under the radar"), so this was a lovely chance to experience who he is becoming. He's the same guy he's always been, but this week I saw more power and resiliency, rather than avoidance or escapism. I needed to be reminded that 1) my overall parenting responses and tone are (sadly) often due to what I think is best for only one child, 2) we need to stay curious about each child and open to their endless possibilities, 3) the whole family system needs a good change-up once in a while! Things go so much more smoothly when I appreciate my children's individual personality traits, whether innate or influenced by the family environment. Perspective | Fear not, parents: Your middle kids are going to be just fine. Our kids’ desires for engagement and attention fluctuate based on their age, personality and how a given day happens to be going. But are these things also impacted by birth order? Not necessarily, experts say.

Quick Facts on the Risks of E-cigarettes for Young People 06/18/2019

I'm outraged by the va**ng epidemic with our teens and today my procrastination technique was to look up more data on the subject. I came across a va**ng/Juuling parent tip sheet and discussion guide published by the Surgeon General (the link is in this post by the CDC) and wanted to share. If anyone has a suggestion for getting involved with a larger solution effort, please let me know. In the meantime, summer is a good time to look for opportunities to chat with your teen... Did someone say "road trip?!" **ng …see more

“We all can’t get 13,000 on our SAT, okay?!?!?!” ... Keanu Reeves had some great lines in that movie.

The ultimate special time.

04/22/2019

Easter Sunday in Newport Beach; 10:30 Mass is really 10:15 (oops), Arnold Palmer iced tea stains my sister’s new white coffee table (the perp shall remain nameless), toilet overflows at my parent’s condo (ok, that was a group effort), and my Dad’s plastic chair suddenly breaks (literally crashes) during the resort magic show with the kids. It’s been a fun day!! 😉

Adolescence and Stealing from Family 03/27/2019

So, I have a confession as a parent coach; One of mine has been using my credit card without permission. I’ve been so hurt and confused. This helps... (thanks, Mom)
