I'm voting for Hans Riemer for Montgomery County Executive
On Climate Change, No One Has Done More for this County
I'm writing to you as a private citizen and a MoCo resident of 33 years. I believe climate change is the number one issue facing our County and the planet. Which is why I'm voting for Hans Riemer for County Executive.
I've seen leaders everywhere -- at the County, state, and national levels -- TALK about climate change and clean energy. But very, very few ACT on these issues like Hans. Just in the past two years as an at-large member of the County Council, Hans has:
* Been THE biggest advocate for solar power in the County, sponsoring legislation that would especially benefit low and moderate-income residents with affordable solar power generated right in the county.
* Exhibited nationally recognized leadership this year in amending a County law to require the MoCo Green Bank invest $20 million in electric-only building retrofits, thus discontinuing loans for climate-harming gas furnaces and hot water systems. This immediately triggered similar action in DC and is inspiring policymakers nationwide.
* Introduced this month one of the first bills in the nation to mandate that all new buildings in the County be completely electric -- no fossil fuel systems -- starting in 2024. The bill SAVES money for homeowners. To solve climate change, we must "electrify everything." This bill is vital and sets the standard of leadership across the country.
This is precisely the kind of bold and smart climate leadership we need in our next county executive. David Blair, by all accounts, does not prioritize climate at all. Marc Elrich, in four years, has done remarkably little on climate policy. He has been a disappointing, slow-moving, and unpredictable leader when we need decisiveness and boldness to meet the County's climate goals.
We need Hans Riemer as County Executive! Join me in voting for Hans and please tell your friends and family. If climate change and clean energy and a liveable environment are important to them, there is no choice but Hans.
Sincerely,
Mike Tidwell

When Marc Elrich fought vaccine requirements for County workers, I fought back.
We need to elect leaders who will always follow the science.
