Fall River Homes has been in an inactive status for a few years as I’ve been away on an Active Duty Army assignment at the Pentagon and now in Colorado Springs for a couple more months, but I’ve been working on a small basement finish project for some friends in the neighborhood I am planning a personal home build in. Here are some sneak peaks! It should be all finished up next week mid week!

Two walls in a basement. TV wall & Bedroom/Office built-ins.

When I did my first bathroom renovation, I was focused on how much I would pay the different subcontractors to do their scope of work. I compiled a list of subcontractors and put prices to the various different tasks as shown in the first photograph. The trouble was I missed a couple things that also take time and cost money. The next photo shows just some of the services and items I have given away for free because I didn’t think they would cost so much or take so long. The purpose of this post is NOT show what things cost but to show up and coming general contractors some of the mistakes I have made when estimating and help them avoid the same oversights.

Great perspective and graphic from a fellow GC. Oftentimes folks feel like they can save a lot of money doing things themselves, or they feel like prices are higher than they should be. Truth is, building is complex and costs are hiding around every corner, oftentimes not even being accounted for by DIYers and novices. I truly believe there is great value in having a contractor, especially a good one, manage your project!

Great work always Dettmore Home Improvements! Looking forward to seeing more of you now that you’re on BSN!

Had a lot of Basement Finishing going on recently. Definitely trying to make this the focus of Fall River Homes outside of New Home Construction, which is the main business effort.

Here are a few pics of the most recent finish. More to come soon as it gets a little more set up.

A couple custom touches to some neighborhood homes. Matched materials exactly to existing house to make them look like part of the original build.

“Stuff” in the garage oftentimes means people parking their car in the driveway or on the street. Fall River Homes makes sure your garage is big enough and there’s a space for that other stuff, so you can park your sweet ride ( ) in the garage. Most builders give you a garage big enough for a HotWheels and don’t care if you have a place for your kids’ wheels (at last count, between bicycles, scooters, wagons, rollerblades, tricycles, jog strollers, and a bike trailer...there are about fifty wheels that belong to my kids...they need there own garage!)
