Our illustration in the April 2025 issue (hitting stands this week) revisits our earlier California drought analysis with fresh data and new statistical models. The results? South Coast Drainage (site of the Palisades fires) shows more extreme fluctuations between wet and dry periods than any other region in California. These widening oscillations tell an important story about our changing climate patterns.

Inflatacart was covered in SF Chronicle today!
How much more expensive are your groceries? This app does the inflation math Inflatacart, created in Oakland, combines a grocery list app with an inflation tracker so you can see how much your food costs have risen.

Are you worried about inflation or just curious about how grocery prices are affecting you? We made an iOS grocery app that ties in inflation data directly to common items we buy. The data is from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and, currently, we update the date on CPI day every month with Consumer Price Index data is released.
Why? Inflation was one of the primary factors that determined the outcome of the 2024 US presidential elections. Promises were made to bring prices down. Not surprisingly, eggs just hit their highest price this week EVER. An executive order asking companies to lower prices is how how we'll deal this.
We wanted to build an unfiltered tool away from news headlines to help you understand how inflation directly impacts you.
And it's just a start. We plan to add more information, like stock prices for major producers of each item (i.e. Cal-Main, a mega egg producer in the US, has seen record stock prices this past year as egg prices have jumped over 64%). Download at the app store. This is a free, independently made app. If you like it and want to see it grow, share, rate or contribute in app.

Two weeks before the US Presidential election has us reflecting on the past. We’ve worked a lot in the political space including for elections around the world (2016 US Presidential, Brexit, Brazil, Germany, etc.) The Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election (aka Mueller Report) was released in 2019. Shortly afterwards, we visualized its word frequency to capture a chaotic political moment. The years between 2016 - 2020 were exhausting to keep up with. Scandals, impeachments, riots, the Pandemic, and a complete lack of leadership. Going back to this only ensures that we will have no less than a more amplified, and organized version of this chaos.
