To our trans and non-binary dancers, our immigrant and undocumented dancers, to our gender q***r dancers, to our black and brown dancers,
We see you. We got you. On this terrible morning, your support and protection is all around you. There are so many people across this country ready to fight for you.

In dark and troubling times, I look to writers, artists, and activists who can think deeper and more clearly than I can and who have been here before (and I don't just mean in 2016.) Again and again, they remind us to turn to our deepest friendships, our community of kindred spirits and to connect with our warrior ancestors. I read Toni Morrison and James Baldwin. I sit with Fannie Lou Hamer. And in this way I do not despair, even when terrified. I remember that I am connected to a long history of marginalized people who fought, sang, danced and resisted, fearlessly and continuously together.

Abrazo is payment optional / donation based this Sunday. If it's helpful, stop by.

Elly has a knack for teaching folks how to turn their tango struggles into new insights, new avenues to joy -- in both roles. It's pretty cool. Tango can be a struggle, and we need ways to push through the muck to find the ease and comfort of this beautiful dance. Elly also hits practices of consent, community care and self-advocacy in a way that is direct, clear and necessary.
