Hi! π It's about time for another introduction post - this time sharing the BTS version of me - I've tried to keep it all non-work/career related π even though my work is one of the biggest parts of my life.
1οΈβ£ The river is my happiest place - summers in Bend are spent on the river as much as possible = floating down the river with a bevvy and good souls.
β€οΈ My husband Tony .comella is my best friend and unpaid business partner - he really does deserve his own appreciation post...
2οΈβ£ I love non-seafood Asian cuisine of any kind - Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian. It's the sauces for me.
3οΈβ£ This AI generated caricature nailed it, especially my little blonde side kick Stella.
4οΈβ£ My mom started doing pilates just last year and I'm so proud of her for taking care of herself after being a care-taker for my Dad the last 10 years.
5οΈβ£ Catch us on vacation tracking down the best oat milk Cortado / Gilbralter (1:1 espresso:milk) in the city.
6οΈβ£ Expect me to veer off to take photos of colorful wall murals but then do nothing with those photos. I love anything vibrant color (our wedding color palette was exciting)
7οΈβ£ My best friendship with Alex started as Pen Pals, turned into hosting her as foreign exchange student , turned "sisters" to bridesmaids. She's French & Argentine and now Australian, lives in Sydney and I can't believe I get to see her almost every year now.
8οΈβ£ I have a 20' x 50' vegetable garden - my work is almost always overseen by Stella. Gardening has taught me patience and learning to let go.
9οΈβ£ No kids of my own - but distant auntie to my niece Ruby and nephew Ryan.
π My Dad was my soul twin - he passed in April 2025 from MSA and I think about him everyday.
1οΈβ£1οΈβ£ I love country music! Favorite artist is Jordan Davis and I'm seeing him in concert for the third year in a row this summer.
πΆ Current obsession is IYKYK
And that's me! π

Those transfers can be AWKWARD.
Make it a little less so with your Stopper!
π Make sure to lock in the carriage with a few springs π΄π΄π΄ so it doesn't move during the transfer.

Proud of my athletes pushing forward this spring despite busy schedules and life changes: moving houses, renovations, trips, caregiver changes.... the work continues.

If any of that resonates with you, you're in the right place.
1οΈβ£ Standing and walking are lower on the priority list than you might think.
π Have conversations with your clients.
π Read between the lines to find what they really care about.
2οΈβ£ You don't need fancy/expensive equipment to offer a great neuro rehab program.
π Foundational exercises on the floor can be challenging enough! + it's what most people need anyways.
π Make your program more affordable and accessible to this already $$ strapped community with intelligently crafted floor-based programs. -overhead!
π Invest in your PEOPLE, their/your education - the service and relationships your clients have with the trainers are why they STAY.
3οΈβ£ There's a lot you can learn from people and movement modalities OUTSIDE of traditional rehab sciences.
π Dance studies have taught me SO much about movement generation and efficiency.
π Pilates gave me a deeper understanding of movement principles and effective teaching strategies.
π Osteopathic ideologies helped me better listen to what the body was telling me it needed - and then the confidence to trust my intuition.
βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
I've been working in movement/neuro/trauma healing for almost 15 years now - thousands of hours of hands-on work with hundreds of bodies, countless conversations about frustrations, and enough light-bulb moments in my client's sessions to drive me to share this work beyond my walls.
Thanks for being here and supporting this mission.π§‘

Pilates Push through bar exercises for neuro rehab: start here!
The push-through-bar (PTB) is a great tool for teaching:
π shoulder mechanics
π triceps strengthening
π postural stability
π dynamic spine control
π The bar creates a "closed-chain" experience for upper body loading, without the full load. A great way to introduce foundations.
π₯ The kick of the spring-loaded bar also offers a great kinesthetic cue for stability! (IYKYK)
1οΈβ£ Seated "arch & curl" (and parts) β intermediate
2οΈβ£ Circle saw β intermediate/advanced coordination
3οΈβ£ PTB presses β start here for shoulder mechanics!
4οΈβ£ Hanging Cat/Cow β also love this one for beginners
5οΈβ£ Side Mermaid β harder than it looks!
What makes these exercises effective is the customization to each individual through:
π Spring settings
π Cueing - verbal & tactile
π Placement of the exercise within the macro program
These clips share some of the exercises we discuss in depth in the new online workshop series: Pilates Equipment for Neuro Rehab
π a self-paced workshop getting nerdy about equipment dynamics and finding the *perfect* set-up and spring selection for that fluid feeling.
