Some of this is so nice I was tempted to keep it for my own….

Students learn so many skills in a capstone project like building a guitar. Beyond just woodworking and CNC programming, they are learning the valuable life lessons of planning ahead, executing to a schedule, and delivering against a set goal.
Wonderful that this program lives on in the very capable hands of instructor Jason Chinchen
High school students in Central Oregon build custom acoustic guitars from scratch Two decades ago, a community effort produced a new woodworking class at Sisters High School that still strikes a chord with its students and its teacher.

Chocolaty Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides of the most recent OM.
Love the little sap stripe and “monkey ears” inkline figure in the center of this back.

A little bit of bearclaw never hurt the tone of an Adirondack top.
A unique OM for a trusting and patient client who wanted just a touch of silver in the headstock inlay.

It’s beyond gratifying when clients return to broaden their palette of guitar tones with a new commission.
This Working Man’s Dread features Machiche back and sides, in lieu of our usual Oregon Walnut, and will be joining a sister Walnut/Adi OM in New York State.
Machiche is a sustainably sourced Central American hardwood with many rosewood like attributes including low damping, high strength, an appearance similar to Honduras Rosewood, and a sweet floral fragrance.
It’s a striking material which delivers a sonically robust flatpicking package paired with the tempered Adirondack top and full range voicing to get the most out of the sympathetic tones generated by the back of the guitar.
