@westsidechapel @brooksrunning Both of my parents are from Jiquilpan, Michoacan, Mexico.
I was born in California and grew up on an Avocado Ranch in Cambria. I love both cultures and want to continue building bridges with the running platform. The best way to explain my love for both countries is that Mexico is like my mother who nurtured and raised me and the USA is like my father who provided and created opportunity.

Swipe right โก๏ธ to see some raw, un-edited finish line scenes ๐ฅ from my last race as a professional trail runner for ๐๐ป ๐๐๐ฝ.
A perfect finish after such a grueling race ๐ฅ. The only thing I regret is not pulling out my phone during the sunrise ๐
while I was on the top of Acatenango. Hoping to get some pictures soon from the volcano. It was the most beautiful sunrise Iโve ever seen ๐ฎ.
My approach to the race was simply to have fun and complete it. I think that attitude is what helped me surprisingly find myself in 1st at the end. The terrain was so hard it just kept breaking everyone ๐ฎ.
The first downhill and second uphill were so technical that I actually broke my leki hiking poles. Iโll post a picture ๐ธ of it in my story โ๐ผ. The key to navigating that type of terrain was to remain calm and playful like a kid doing parkour ๐ฅท. I imagined myself like my son Jair doing obstacles for fun ๐คฉ.
I was able to stay positive and get through most of the vert, which is in the first 50k of the race, thanks to my friend ๐ฌ๐น๐๐ผ. Even though we were โracingโ each other in the 100k, he kept giving me tips on the course because he has run it every year since 2021. I also gave him some tips and help on how to settle his nausea and get through his first 100k here (he had raced the 77k every year until now). At the 79k we found out we were now in the lead.
I was actually hoping Nando and I could cross the line together. I waited for him a couple times while he battled nausea/vomit (even though he encouraged me to take off and win it), and it wasnโt until the last aid station that I actually listened to him because we got word that third was closing in.
In the end Nando was able to rally back on the downhill and still secure second place ๐ฅ which was so cool ๐. Grateful and proud of him ๐๐ผ.
More to come, if I can secure some action shots from the volcanoesโฆ๐ค
IT IS FINISHED ๐ฅ!! Couldnโt have asked for a better finish ๐. Got to celebrate with my family and run it in together.
Ultra Guatemala ๐ฌ๐น is the hardest ultra Iโve done. 23 thousand feet of climbing three times tagging 13 thousand foot volcanoes ๐, and one super burly descent, with a lot of technical sections ๐ฎ.
Wasnโt expecting to win this one to be honest. Spent most of the night and day in 3rd and sometimes 2nd, so it was quite the gift to retire this way ๐ซถ๐ป.
More to come. For now vacation, rest, recovery ๐.
Big shoutout to for all the help ๐๐ผ. Fun to finally experience this legendary race.

Donโt worry guys im not pulling a Brett Favre move here ๐, this last โfun runโ was already planned as a way to celebrate with the family a change in my relationship with running ๐.
This 100k in Antigua Guatemala ๐ฌ๐น is for my wife Jade and our two boys. We are here with all 4 grandparents celebrating Jades birthday and taking a fun vacation ๐คฉ.
Iโll be running a 100k that starts at 10pm and climbs all three volcanoes ๐. The family will get to come watch tomorrow at 79k and finish ๐.
I first heard about this race on a mission trip and have always wanted to do it. And my friend who ran the 42k encouraged me to do it. Itโs going to be super burly but so fun to finally experience these mountains โฐ๏ธ.
When you go to bed, please say a little prayer for me and all the other runners ๐๐ผ . Mainly for safety and fun. My goal for this race is just to have fun, finish ๐ค๐ผ, and celebrate with my family.
The new relationship with running begins today ๐ซถ๐ผ.
โผ๏ธlast picture i caught the volcano erupting ๐๐ป.

1๏ธโฃ Made it on the latest issue of THE Ultra Running Magazine ๐๐ป. Next to some of my running heroes. Thanks who let me know and gave me a copy ๐. [pic is from Waldo 100k].
2๏ธโฃ The Chapel Run Group๐๐ฝ ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ planned a surprise run and celebration for me to celebrate ๐ ๐ after Kodiak. We got to run, eat, and share some experiences. So fun ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ.
Its definitely the people that have made this all special ๐ซถ๐ป. Grateful ๐๐ผ.
