Blue Moon Performance Horses aspires to create a partnership between horse and rider by combining natural horsemanship with traditional methods. I strive to bring more natural horsemanship to the show pen and inspire my client’s achieve their horse goals in and out of the show pen. I offer a complete program for my clients including training, lessons, show assistance and sales.

Here’s the explanation ⬇️ 1. When you are constantly being slow and tiptoeing around your horse because you don’t want to scare them, you’re essentially setting them up to be scared when you start moving normal again. The opposite is also true. If they learn your normal speed and then one day you want to show them something new and you slowly creep up to them like a cat stalking them, they are going to wonder what in the world is going on and probably make a bigger deal about the object than if you just walked up with it. 2. When your horse spooks at something or sees something they want to get excited about, people often try and ride them up to it and make them touch the object and you see a big zigzag fight where both horse and rider are worked up by the end of it creating a spot in the arena that the horse associates with a big deal. In most cases it’s easiest to just ignore the object, ignore your horses thoughts about it and just redirect their attention to what you’re working on. 3. Many people release pressure in the wrong spot and create a horse that learns that acting scared creates a release. Example, if you’re giving a horse a bath for the first time and you put water on their leg they will likely move the leg, try to get away from it. It is so common for humans to want to stop and let the horse have a moment before trying again. But what happened was that horse learned that when a pressure they don’t like is put on them, if they move away or throw a fit, they get a release from it. Instead, leave the water on them even as they move around and the exact moment they stand still with the water on them, you take it away. That teaches them standing is the release. #horsetraining #horseriding #horsetrainingtips #horselife #horsetrainer #horsetrainingvideos #coltstarting 02/07/2025

“We don’t want to tell them what they’re doing wrong all the time. We want to show them what’s right.” –af

Had such a blast learning and laughing the last three days. This was definitely worth the trip. Have so many new exercises and thoughts to come home with and start playing with. Absolutely best part was seeing Andrea Fappani in a top hat and tails.

Whether its someone I am coaching or myself, I don't find much more rewarding than putting in the work and seeing the improvement and then the win when everything comes together.

I will help all I can, but I can’t do the work for you. If you show up, I show up to the best of my ability. If you don’t, that’s on you. If I’m pushing you, it’s because I believe in you!💪

King and I had a great time at the Klamath Basin Horse Show this last weekend, coming home with the open ranch horse high point and 3rd overall in the senior horse performance division. They put on a great show that was run well, with great volunteers and judges. (And fun prizes😁)
