We are excited to announce a showing of the documentary, Daughter of a Lost Bird, at Open Space Event Studios in collaboration with the Deschutes Public Library on Saturday, April 9th.
Synopsis courtesy of Women Make Movies: The documentary Daughter of a Lost Bird follows Kendra, an adult Native adoptee, as she reconnects with her birth family, discovers her Lummi heritage, and confronts issues of her own identity. Her singular story echoes many affected by the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Indian Adoption Project.
The documentary Daughter of a Lost Bird explores ethics surrounding Native American adoption via a singular story as an entry point into a more complicated national issue. In many ways, Kendra Potter is a perfect example of cultural assimilation, a modern representation of the painful phrase, "kill the Indian, save the man." She is a thriving woman who grew up in a loving, upper middle-class white family, and feels no significant loss with the absence of Native American culture or family in her life. And yet, as a Blackfeet/Salish woman, director Brooke Swaney could not imagine that Kendra could be content or complete without understanding her heritage. So together they embark on a 7 year journey.

We’re still trying to find the right words to describe MOWO’s show last night. Inspiring. Impactful. Raw. None of them quite seem to do this project justice.
If you missed it, you’re in luck because we’ve got another show tonight! Tickets are available on bendticket.com and will also be available at the door. $10. Seriously, Bend. You don’t want to miss this.

Mark your calendar! The next Bend Production Society Happy Hour Meet Up is on Thursday, March 31st, from 5-8:30 PM. We had such an awesome turnout for our last meeting in December and cannot wait to see you all again. Please spread the word, and we’ll see you there!
Join us for a theater workshop that explores movement, presence and connection with practitioners Ann Boyd and Kurt Brocker. Ann and Kurt worked in the Chicago dance and theatre communities for twenty-five years. Kurt trained at DePaul University’s Theatre School and worked as an actor throughout the city. Ann worked as a choreographer and director and full-time faculty coordinating the Movement for Actors and Theatre Devising at Columbia College Chicago.
Kurt and Ann share a love of constraint-based ensemble practices including Movement to Music and the Viewpoints. Movement to Music is not “dancing” but rather invites us to freely and with abandon respond to our impulses. The Viewpoints is a compositional vocabulary that gives us a structure that liberates us to express authentic movement as well as experience presence and connection. We will also share theatrical warmups, freewriting, and an overall emphasis on building our curiosity and awareness.
Cost: $100 | $75 for students*
