It is with an insanely heavy heart and through tears that I have to announce the closing of Salado Creek Riding Club. I was informed that my lease is not to be renewed. I am looking for a place to set up shop for teaching and training in Central Texas. We will be closing the doors to the farm Feb. 28, 2025. Life can seem very unfair, but I know in my heart that everything happens for a reason and I can only hope there is a silver lining in all of this.
I will be available for teaching and clinics as normal.
Stay tuned for a farm wide sale.

Shifting to Horse's Weight Back 10/29/2024

As a dressage rider, one of the key elements of training a dressage horse is to shift its weight to the hind end. Shifting the weight to the hind end allows the horse to engage its hindquarters and move with greater balance and impulsion. Here are some key points to consider when working on shifting a dressage horse's weight to the hind end:

What Equestrian Vaulting has Taught me About Horsemanship 10/17/2024

As a dressage trainer, I have always emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation in horsemanship. When my daughter started equestrian vaulting and joined her vaulting team, I was initially terrified. However, as I watched her progress and learned more about vaulting, I began to appreciate the valuable lessons it imparts, not just for my daughter but also for me.

Equestrian vaulting has taught me a whole new perspective on horsemanship.

Dressage for the Western Horse 10/15/2024

Dressage, often associated with English riding, has a lot to offer Western horses as well. While the discipline itself may look different in a Western context, the principles and benefits of dressage can be applied to benefit all horses, including those in the Western riding world.

One of the key benefits of incorporating dressage principles into Western riding is the emphasis on obedience, lightness, and responsiveness. These are all important qualities for any type of riding, and by integrating dressage techniques, Western riders can help their horses become more balanced, supple, and attentive.

Transitions, Transitions, Transitions 10/10/2024

Transitions, Transitions, Transitions
In dressage, transitions play a critical role in training the horse for engagement and activity. A well-executed transition is a beautiful display of harmony between horse and rider and a fundamental building block for developing strength, balance, and obedience in the horse.

Transitions in dressage refer to the smooth changes between different gaits (walk, trot, canter) and within the gaits themselves. These transitions are a test of the horse's obedience and responsiveness and a key component in developing the horse's musculature and suppleness.

One of the key concepts in dressage is the idea of the horse being "through" and "on the bit," which essentially means that the horse is working in a round and connected frame, engaging its hindquarters and allowing the energy generated from the hind legs to flow through to the bridle. Achieving this level of collection and engagement requires consistent and well-executed transitions. READ MORE....
