Well that’s a wrap for the 2018 Texas State Gravel 100 Mile Championship Race:

SAG Report:

We can’t say enough about our Team Van built by Vandoit. The overnight dry camping off grid at the event was actually even better than I could imagine.
Was able to quickly set up camp (less than 10 mins). With the support of a generator, the well isolated van with the roof AC kept us nice and cool all night and durning the neutral SAG stops, (95 deg to 79deg). Even with multiple generators operating around us, no issues with getting a good night sleep.

During the race I needed to be at 3 SAG stops (54 mile, 72 mile and 84 mile) 3 bottles with nuun hydration Performance and electrolytes, ice socks, cokes, gels, and our new favorite addition Pickle Juice

The best way to help your athlete is to know your athlete’s lows and highs, to push them but not throw them over the cliff. I noticed after our 54 mile SAG stop, she was craving sugar, so between that stop and the next SAG stop I ran to a gas station and got more ice and 2 bags of Trolli sour bites gummy worms. With the nice surprise of something sweet and sour at her next stop and a few words of encouragement of just go out there and with a push to just spin her legs for a mile or two low watts; she was back to hammering to her next stop.

After the race, her new found favorite accessory of the van, was the outdoor shower!! With a open top changing tent and using the rear doors for extra privacy. Bam, the cool refreshing shower of water quickly erased the 100 miles of gravel and dirt. For me, I’m no longer stuck riding 1.5 hrs with a dirt and sweat covered wife 🤫. I even had enough left over to rinse down the bike, if I had wanted to.

All in all, the trip was a success. Let’s face it with the heat and wind, it wasn’t a group ride. Gritty Teeth Racing put on one hell of an event!! Well done Chad and Joy Brott.

My new add on for post SAG reports, for those who know me; you know not to ask me something if you don’t want honest feedback. So it goes with out saying, our official sponsor’s products and services are the best.

So the new add on is what I’ll call “O Yeah”, for either a non-sponsored products or services that was beneficial to race day.

O Yeah - Champion 3400 Watt Inverter dual fuel gas/lp generator. This generator was just powered by propane and ran from 8:30pm to 8:15am, providing plenty of power for our 15k BTU roof A/C on just one 20 LB bottle. No need to waking up every 4 hrs to refill the gas tank. Being dual fuel, no need to transport gas cans and the fumes that permeates into your vehicles’ interior.
Traveling to and from the race with a LP tank was a breeze, no gas smell and the generator didn’t have that burnt exhaust smell after shutting it down.

O Yeah, Solonpas pain relieving cream worked well and provided some relief from constant sore back, shoulder and neck mussels. Time to go to Austin Massage Company and/or The Training Room with a quick stop at Cryo Wellness..

Have you thanked or promoted your sponsors today?
Jorge R Martinez's hard work is paying off! Last weekend, at Gritty Teeth Racing, Day 2, he finished 3rd, doubling up with the Masters and Single Speed. Congrats Jorge!

We are announcing today that the Texas Gravel Championship will not take place on June 27th in Rosebud, Texas.

Last week, USA Cycling provided detailed guidance about measures that should be put into place for events permitted under USA Cycling. After reviewing this guidance in detail, we have determined that we have neither the financial nor the volunteer resources needed to put on our event as scheduled and in compliance with USA Cycling’s current COVID-19 guidelines.

We also do not wish to compromise the integrity of the Texas Gravel Championship by shortening the event and/or changing its format as we feel strongly that the route and current format are truly worthy of a championship event.

We look forward to bringing back the Texas Gravel Championship to Rosebud once COVID-19 considerations are no longer an issue. Refunds have been issued to everyone who registered online via BikeReg.

Thanks to everyone who came out today to race in the in Rosebud! We'll get the results posted to USA Cycling (USAC) for both of the competitive events (53 mile & 100 mile distances) on Monday or Tuesday. We had an unusually heavy volume of day-of race registrations that we need some time to manually review as several riders did not enter in their USA Cycling license numbers (which takes time). We'll post the USA Cycling link here & we'll send out an email to all pre-registered riders once the results are posted on USAC.

May 6, 2019: For Immediate Release:
Gritty Teeth Racing & the City of Rosebud Announce Texas Gravel Championship will be Rescheduled

The Texas Gravel Championship (TGC) Event scheduled for Saturday, May 11th is being rescheduled for a TBD date in June 2019. The event is being rescheduled because:
1. Unusually heavy rain & localized flooding has translated into roads that are washed out & in poor condition. Approximately 20% of the course Is not currently rideable.
2. Unity Park in Rosebud, which is the start/finish venue is currently under water. We are concerned about damage to the park & the risk of vehicles becoming stuck. Additionally an alternate start/finish venue is not available
3. We marked & surveyed the course on May 5th; a total of 4 roads were closed. Re-routing is not currently possible because of damage to other roads in the area.
4. Several more inches of rain are predicted for the Rosebud area this week
5. Local weather forecast calls for heavy rain, thundershowers & lightening on the morning of Sat, May 11th. We are concerned about rider safety as well as the safety of the children participating in the bicycle safety rodeo & helmet give-away at our event.
6. Date conflict with the USAC National MTB Marathon Championship in West Texas (which was moved to a new date & location after TGC was already on the USAC calendar)
7. Lower-than-normal pre-registration numbers due to riders waiting until the last minute to decide to participate in our event because of weather predictions
8. Current registration trends point to smaller-than-normal fields. We want to make this truly a Championship event, so larger fields are needed to make this a fun, competitive event.

Gritty Teeth Racing is committed to providing a safe, fun & quality event for all participants. We will be working with the teams in Rosebud & Lott to identify a rescheduled date in June. We expect to announce the new date within the next 48 hours. After we announce the new date, riders who cannot participate should email [email protected] to request a refund.
