Big news! Washington creek restoration project gets $5M in funding to transform habitat for bull trout!
About 55 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade Range, there is a beautiful pond that is actually a large gravel pit pulling water from an adjacent creek. At certain times of the year, this loss of water leaves Gold Creek too dry and disconnected for migratory fish.
Now, thanks to a $5 million grant from the National Fish Passage Program, with funds made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the area is about to experience a massive transformation. This work will reopen migration pathways and return the cold, clear water needed for Endangered Species Act-listed bull trout and other anadromous fish.
The project is expected to break ground next summer. Read more about the project: https://buff.ly/4heZeLu
