The Moon tonight behind some thick smoke. My dad took this photo using his Seestar S50.

The Sun from today! Two telescopes were used to make this image. One was our Seestar S50 and the other was a Lunt 40mm Hydrogen Alpha. The Seestar got the sun spots while the Lunt got the rest! Then the images were combined using GIMP.

Unfortunately the weather looks poor tomorrow so we may not be out at Taylor Dock, but if it clears up we’ll see you out there! Sundays at Sunset, weather permitting!

Here is our current outreach setup! Lately we’ve been starting off with looking at the Sun (SAFELY!) through a Hydrogen Alpha telescope named Galileo, who was one of the first astronomers to safely look at the Sun.

Then, as the sun goes down we like to switch to the big scopes! Ian brings his 10” Apertura Dobsonian to share with every while I swap Galileo with Vera, our new 9.25” Celestron SCT.

Tonight we will be at Taylor Dock starting at 8PM and ending at 11:30PM. Swing by if you’d like a look!

We setup telescopes every Sunday at Sunset, weather permitting. For a quick status update of our weekly events be sure to check out our website link in the bio!

We donated Caroline!!

This telescope we named after the astronomer Caroline Herschel, and after collecting hundreds of signatures from local visitors in Bellingham, we’ve given it away to the nearby Whatcom Community College. From there she will continue to share views of the sky for years to come.

If Caroline should need any maintenance or replacement parts in the future, we’ve also collected enough donations to support this for years to come.

Now we will start this whole process over by sharing our new telescope Vera, every Sunday at Sunset near Taylor Dock, weather permitting.

See you out there!

M44 - a very nice open cluster out in Cancer. I used our Seestar S50, Pons, to take this photo tonight. Tomorrow night we will be at Taylor Dock with our telescope to share from 10pm to midnight. Space!

We saw the Lunar Eclipse! A thunderstorm with hail and snow came over Bellingham and we were on our toes if we would see it. But we did!!

The close up photos were taken with our Seestar S50 while we viewed it through our 80mm refractor. I think we had about 50 visitors and everyone got their badge.

Such a rad little telescope. Here is Nivens, our 80mm Apochromatic Refractor sharing views of the Moon at Taylor Dock!

We had 11 visitors and one of them brought us cat nip for our feline overlords. Which are watching me now as I write this. Cats are amazing. And so is the moon!!!

Last night’s full moon and more comet photos. My dad got the comet while I went for the moon using our ZWO Seestar S50s!

“It’s too close to the sun and so I don’t think it will be visible tonight.”

Is what I said before my Seestar S50 proved me wrong.

But heck yeah, we saw a comet!

Then we all zoomed in with telescopes, binoculars and cameras. What a treat.

I hope y’all get to see this!!!

Wow. Just wow. Space is awesome!

There was no wind and we seemed to be between the tides, so the water was remarkably still. Then, the sky lit up. One of the best shows on earth. Hope everyone got to see this!!! Again!!!!
