Join us at 5pm this Sunday as we gather to worship Jesus. Pastor Chris's sermon series walks through the book of Revelation.

The book of Revelation is one of the most misunderstood books in the entire Bible. Its vivid imagery and apocalyptic language tends to produce wild theories predicting the “end times” or guessing games around biblical prophecy and current events.

Revelation—much like its name suggests—is not a book of riddles to be deciphered; rather it is a revelation, or unveiling of the reality. Revelation pulls back the veil between heaven and earth for a peek into what Jesus wants to reveal to us about the way the world works and our place in it.

It may come as a shock, but the book of Revelation might be one of the most practical and timely books for followers of Jesus trying to live out our faith in the world of empires.

So buckle your seatbelts and get ready for a wild ride through Revelation as we listen to Jesus unveil reality before us.

The text for this week is Revelation 13.1-10.

Mark your calendar for the Ash Wednesday Service on February 18 at 7 a.m. at Norway Hall (1419 N Forest St)
This short, simple, yet powerful service draws on Scripture readings, a service of repentance, and the imposition of ashes as a way of remembering our mortality and need for Jesus.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, the six week period that offers us space to prepare our hearts and minds for the Easter celebration. Traditionally, this season is one of repentance (turning from sin and toward Jesus afresh) and a time when people often give up something good to gain something better and/or engage in acts of service to others, more time in prayer, reading Scripture, etc.
This service will only last 30-40 minutes but you are welcome to stay and pray in the sanctuary as long as you like.

When the Holy Spirit fell upon the early apostles, a new community was formed that broke social norms and expectations. What would be called the church was a radical fellowship that defied both Jewish and Greco-Roman customs: Women and men teaching and leading, children were valued the same as adults, wealthy aristocrats and politicians were sharing meals with slaves, Jews and Gentiles were sharing life together!

The early church struggled to find language to describe this radical new fellowship among the diverse followers of Jesus, so the Apostle Paul borrowed a word both Jews and Gentiles were familiar with and repurposed it; that word is koinonia in Greek, or partnership in English.

At LSCC, our worship gatherings are designed to be a “big tent” where all are welcomed to participate, to worship, to share in community, and to receive the gospel of Jesus. As people make a commitment to trust in Jesus, we also invite them to become partners with LSCC. Partnership is a mutual relationship in which a person commits to the mission and community of LSCC through service, financial support, prayer, and participation. Partnership also includes voting privileges and opens people up to more leadership roles within the church community.
