I was raised a Minnesota farm girl - where being honest and hard work were not only expected but required for survival. I used that work ethic and my resonant honesty to create success in many areas of life: from surviving a childhood most can't bare to hear about; to graduating top of my college accounting class WHILE having a baby, raising someone else's children, and rocking a part time job! I
used those same skills to reach management level at a World-Wide 500 company, streamline processes to produce 4,000 units where 200 had been the norm, teach myself how to build sculptured cakes [think Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss], and, write a children's book that makes adults cry from the joy it pulls from their soul. I must confess that it is difficult for me to write these "accolades". It feels like bragging - which I was taught was unacceptable. The perception of one who brags also goes against the grain of what I believe: Bragging can be perceived that I think "I am better than you, so listen to me"...when I believe we ALL have immense value. Most people aren't comfortable with their value. They've not found the permission slip to tell the world they have value - as we've been taught to not brag. I'm here to tell you that I understand. I've learned how to find permission slips! I want you to find and pick up that permission slip for yourself, and keep it in your pocket until you are ready to share your best self with the world. Then when you're ready...share. The world will be waiting. I'll be here waiting, too. Waiting to help you share who you are and what is important to you to the world. Waiting to help you communicate to the world the value you bring just by showing up. Every day I see people from four to 94 struggling. If I can reduce that suffering even a little - then I will be living Who I am. Nothing makes me happier. I'd also like to stress that I don't want to see you wait till you are 94 to show your best self to the world. Just like me, I know you have your reasons. One of my reasons is that I didn't feel like I had anyone who understands me or that could see me for who I am. I thought about blaming them, but, I know it is MY responsibility to show the world who I am. Everyone's busy...they're not going to come pull it out of me. And, if I'm going to be out in the world, I'm so much happier when I show them my best self! I feel happy to the core of who I am. I want this same feeling for you! I want to share a brief story here. It has to do with something as simple as the cardboard tube that your toilet paper is rolled around. I have one of those - just the tube. It sits in a special basket on top of my bookshelf in my kitchen. I live in a small house. 1,100 square feet. This "tube" is stuffed heavily at one end with toilet paper. The other has about four sheets, loosely stuffed, so those four sheets can be easily pulled out and put back in. The purpose for this tube [and being in a small house, everything needs to have a purpose, otherwise I call it clutter!] is to catch small bugs and spiders and release them outdoors - where they belong. This makes my children very happy, as they seem to have a serious aversion to crawling bugs! Why am I telling you this story? Because, I want you to know that I care about small bugs living! And I care that they live where they belong and will thrive - outdoors! And...if I care about small bugs being able to "be who they are" and live a great life...what does that say about how I will care about you?
