Sarah Eisses, reporter, Mar. 14—National School Walkout
Students met in the cafeteria at 10 a.m., participating in the nationwide school walkout to honor the victims of the Parkland shooting one month after it happened. After students were gathered, a slideshow with pictures and information about each victim was played. Students were then encouraged to write letters to voice their opinions to local politicians. “I’m writing to our senators to get their attention for more gun regulations,” Leila Jones (10) said, “No one should be afraid to go to public places.”

Peyton Nienaber, editor, Mar. 12—Sail Away
The gold fleet sails downwind to the leeward. The wind picked up for a few races this weekend and made the sailing team’s regatta more exciting. “When the wind picked up we did better. More wind allows you to focus on strategy not just trying to keep speed,” Mallory Hood (12) said.

Sylus Augustine, reporter, Mar. 12—Since Monday, Mar. 5, many of the doors around campus have been locked as a safety precaution. The staff have wanted to do this for a long time as a reply to growing concern from the students. It may be inconvenient but the staff believe that the safety of students is more important. "Safety over convenience,” Peggy Fogarty (campus monitor) said.

I’m most excited for being able to cheer for the last runners when everyone is cold and tired,” Annabella Esquivel (10) said. Esquivel will compete in the 200 meter, 400 meter and long jump.

Serena Keenan, editor, Feb. 27—Students in Mr. Schroyer’s AP Lang class just finished working on a five person group essay about online media and advertising. The assignment, which students had about a week and a half to complete, required students to come up with a position on the effects of media and advertising, as well as address five related topics. “I found that there was a lot more to cover than I had initially thought. Advertisement is something I have lived with all my life and thought little of but the assignment prompted me to think deeper about my assertions,” Markian Romanyshyn (11) said. “It was rough trying to write an essay amongst all 5 of our group members because each of us had our own equally complex, nuanced, topics to fit together under one all-encompassing thesis.”
