As a mentor you commit to developing a positive and impactful relationship with your mentee. It is important to recognize the uniqueness of each youth and the potential impact trauma has on them. Through creation of a trusting relation
ship a mentee feels safe with their mentor. As a mentor it is important for you to be reliable, compassionate, enthusiastic and help to create a sense of belonging for the youth. Paths postSecret Harbor youth are resilient, inventive, caring and adventurous and we hope to find mentors to help facilitate their positive growth, help advocate on their behalf and allow for success in many areas of life. As a mentor you are helping build up your mentee, encouraging their positive assets and skills and continually working to build on the assets that need further development. The goal of PATHS is to provide youth with positive and long-lasting relationships that will surpass their time in Secret Harbor’s foster care program. Secret Harbor realizes that lack of connection to positive people and community is the largest barrier for success and well-being for the youth we serve. As a mentor you have the opportunity to break down these walls and guide them as they navigate life’s many paths.
