Understanding How Facebook Disappeared from the Internet 10/04/2021

Here is a good technical article on what transpired today, it doesn't explain why.. that will come out in a few days maybe.. but it is a good overview. They were completely gone, no record of any of their stuff existed. For us it was a busy day, we received a record number of calls, and a lot of people reset their modems to factory defaults etc.. so we've been busy and are still catching up...

Understanding How Facebook Disappeared from the Internet Today at 1651 UTC, we opened an internal incident entitled "Facebook DNS lookup returning SERVFAIL" because we were worried that something was wrong with our DNS resolver 1.1.1.1. But as we were about to post on our public status page we realized something else more serious was going on.

VPNFilter malware still making waves 11/28/2018

Recently we have received a large number of calls regarding Internet problems as reported by customers. The customer loses the internet every 15 minutes to an hour and must repower to get back online. We have identified this specifically with customers using their own wifi routers, and in most case specifically Netgear and Netgear Nighthawk routers. There is a global cyber attack against these internet routers which infects the units and causes havoc. The malware is called VPNFilter. The only fix is to update to the latest version of the firmware, and reset the unit to factory defaults then set the unit up from scratch. This works in most cases however in some the router is not repairable. In addition the newer routers use a new protocol named AC and runs in the 5ghz band. Wireless access hangs and drops using this new protocol, we suggest always choose the 2Ghz version, typically they set up the wireless SSID”s like “Netgear” and “Netgear5”, forget the 5ghz (5) version and choose the 2 ghz.

VPNFilter malware still making waves We take a look at VPNFilter malware, which is still out there and causing trouble for certain models of routers worldwide. What is it? And is your device on the list? Read on.

Slow Internet? Check your DNS settings, make sure you are not using Google DNS servers, they are having lots of issues lately and make it look like the Internet is slow. Set your network adapters to inherit DNS from the router. If you are using 8.8.8.8 that is a problem.
