Where to start on this one so it will be a long one and I apologize in advance. Stick with it, you will not be disappointed.

I have been in BMX for a very long time. A fad turned into my passion/hobby into a legit job.

The first time I met the Sakakibara family was on a clinic tour in Japan. I would say ‘03 or ‘04. They were the only ones that could speak English well. We became good friends would catch up every year at the UCI worlds.

Little did I know that the Japan clinic tours had such an impact on Kai and Saya. My race number for many years was #77. was too young when my number came available but after a few years he was able to get his hands on it. That’s when I found out that I was his favorite racer. Can’t tell you how cool and honored it was to see number 77 on the gate in the main events.

Kai had a bad crash in 2020 at one of the WC in Australia and ended up no being able to continue his racing career. Now he is fully committed to rowing. He is one of the toughest and determined guy I know. He is such an inspiration. Go check out his journey on Instagram

Caught up with at the WC in Papendal this year. Told her I need that number plate she was racing with. Yes, she is racing with 77 to honor her brother. She ended up winning that day, which was so awesome to see. Especially after the rough year she had the year before. Never give up!!!

She ended up sending me her number plate. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Was worried for a second that she gave me her lucky number plate. Turned out that wasn’t the case.
