“What we as blind and visually impaired people need is companies like CL Design SIMPLIFYING how we access the web which everyone else takes for granted. I myself use screen reader software to access programs on my computer. Trying to go online and look for information on websites with it is tedious and time consuming. Coupled with the added burden of having to learn navigation commands for the screen reader just to get the information makes it very challenging for a not-so-computer-literate person like me and persons who are new to blindness. What I like about Chris’s work is how it tells me what I need to do and then I just press one key to get where I need to go. The human voice narrated presentations are pleasant and a nice change from the robotic voice of the screen reader. It guides me every step of the way which eliminates endless and tedious searching for information I am looking for. I would encourage any organization to add these types of presentations to their website so that more people can be included online. As a customer I would be more likely to buy from a company that cares enough to make my online experience easy and pleasant.”

“When I first went to the CL Design website I labeled it as not accessible because it didn’t work with my screen reader program. I created a screen capture video and sent it to Chris so he could experience what I was experiencing. It was after this that Chris challenged me to visit his site and turn off my screen reader. Then reload the page to hear the human audio prompts. I quickly discovered how easy and effective it was to use his site by listening to the audio narration and prompts in addition to pressing one key to get where I wanted to go. The methodology he uses does have its merits. To begin with, most of the heavy lifting actually takes place on the website, as opposed to on the user with the screen reader. Conceptually this has the potential to remove challenges associated with acquiring, installing, learning and using a screen reader because everything needed to access the website is included. Unfortunately, many things on the computer still require a screen reader, so having both is still a must. But this site was like a digital oasis in the desert and is a step in right direction for sure. Especially for companies that want to provide better online experiences for their customers and potential customers.”
