Opposite Action is a DBT skill that helps clients shift emotional responses by acting opposite to the urge driven by an unhelpful emotion. When emotions do not align with the facts or are too intense, clients can choose behaviors that move them toward their goals rather than away from them. This skill is effective in reducing avoidance, improving mood, and building long term emotional resilience.
