Even in the off-season, you need to have the water in your swimming pool tested. This prevents having to add large amounts of chemicals at any one time, and avoids any damage that contaminated water can cause.

Adding chemicals to the pool in the correct amounts is very important and you want to ensure that it is done right. Our professionals know how to add just the right mix of chemicals to keep the water clean and pH levels balanced.

The best way to treat chloramine odor is to ensure ample pool water oxidation. This requires establishing and maintaining proper pH values, developing appropriate levels of free chlorine and keeping stabilizer use to a minimum.

Pure water has a natural pH very close to 7, which indicates a balance between acidic and alkaline compounds. For safe swimming conditions and optimal chemical performance, pool water should have a pH rating between 7.2 and 7.8.

Cleaning the skimmer and pump baskets regularly is important to the overall maintenance of your swimming pool. Clogged baskets make your pump have to work harder to try to cycle the water. This can decrease the life and stress the seals in your pump.

What is pool shock? The term refers to the process of super-chlorinating the water to shock it back into balance. Strangely enough, adding high volumes of chlorine actually reduces the chloramines that cause harsh chlorine odors.

In general, we recommend keeping water in your pool year round. Why? The pool may not be used during colder months, but the weight of the water helps counteract the force of soil contraction and expansion caused by temperature changes.

Concerned about a leak? Put an empty bucket on a pool step. Fill it to match the water level. Mark that level with a pen, and wait two days. If the bucket and pool levels remain the same, water loss is due to evaporation.

If your swimming pool seems to be losing water, it could be a filtration problem. A pool that is gradually losing water may have a bottom ring or backwash valve problem. In either case, water leaks out of the pool via the drain.
