Today we joined DCR in honoring Indigenous fishing traditions as part of DCR's Archaeology Month. Visitors explored the mishoon our tribe burned last Spring, traditional fishing tools, and the Project Mishoon display—each a living testament to Indigenous knowledge and resilience. A DCR archaeologist shared various artifacts and led a hands-on demonstration. Fun for everyone!
Thanks to all who came out to learn, ask questions, and celebrate with us. Tomorrow we will be back for the Project Mishoon presentation at 2pm -- hope to see you!

Canoe Quest: Help Us Map Massachusetts' Historic Mishoonash!
From lakes and rivers to oral histories, mishoonash—dugout canoes—carry the legacy of Indigenous craftsmanship and connection to water.
At Project Mishoon, we’re honored to care for our mishoonash—but we know they’re not alone.🛶
Have you seen one? Heard of one? Read about one? Know where one might be?
We’re searching for mishoonash across Massachusetts—whether submerged in a lakebed, recorded in old documents, or remembered through stories. Every tip helps us piece together this canoe legacy.
📍 Drop a comment, message us, or email [email protected]—let’s map this history together!

Thanks to Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation for their support! MOOR joined many other state and local agencies who worked with us to make our Quinsigamond Mishoon Burn a great success. We saw old friends, made new ones, strengthened our tribal ties and reinforced our ancestors' traditions in our homeland. What a wonderful weekend! Taubotne!
