🎆 Firework Season Is Upon Us! 🎆
Please take time to plan ahead to keep your pets safe and comfortable during this noisy season. Fireworks can be terrifying for animals, and the sudden loud noises often cause them to panic and run.
Our team here at WTSAR has some basic reminders to help protect your pets:
🐾 Keep Pets Indoors:
Make sure your pets are inside before fireworks begin. Even outdoor pets should be brought in to prevent them from escaping out of fear.
🔒 Secure Your Home & Yard:
Double-check that doors, windows, and gates are securely closed. Scared pets may bolt, even through small openings.
📸 Update ID Tags & Microchips:
Ensure your pet’s ID tag has current contact info and that their microchip details are up to date. This is critical if they get out.
🎵 Drown Out the Noise:
Play calming music, white noise, or keep the TV on to help muffle the sounds of fireworks.
You can also use noise-canceling earmuffs for dogs (or vet-approved hearing protection) for pets that tolerate wearing them.
🛏️ Create a Safe Space:
Give your pet a quiet, comfy area with blankets or their favorite toys. A covered crate can help some animals feel more secure.
💊 Talk to Your Vet if Needed:
If your pet has extreme anxiety, speak to your vet in advance about calming aids or medications.
🐕🦺 Don’t Leave Pets Alone Outdoors:
Even a fenced yard isn’t safe during fireworks. Frightened pets have been known to jump fences or dig out.
🧡 Let’s make sure our furry family members stay safe and feel loved this firework season.

We have found where the dog belongs.
He had been here visiting his grandparents from Prinville. Both sightings he was out taking care of business and wandered to the sidewalk.

While working to recover Lucy, our team has now received two sightings of another dog in the same neighborhood.
This dog is NOT Lucy, although they have similar coloring and the similar color collar. This dog appears to be older, a different size, and may have a growth or tumor under its chest.

💕🐾 Update on Our Clatskanie Pu🐾💕
Through Columbia County, this sweet girl was placed on stray hold and fostered by one of the amazing people who originally reached out to us for help getting her safely contained.
During her stay, her foster connected with a wonderful family who came to spend time with her every day, hoping that once her stray hold was up, they could make her part of their family.
Well… it happened! 🎉
Maggie has officially been adopted and is now a cherished member of her forever family. Stories like this remind us that sometimes a dog’s journey takes an unexpected turn, leading them exactly where they were meant to be.
Thank you to everyone who played a role in helping Maggie find safety, love, and a place to call home.
Sending so much love your way, Maggie. ❤️ It looks like you’ve found exactly where you belong.

🐾💕Update on Our Colton Stray
The wonderful family who originally reached out to us for help getting this boy safely contained has decided to foster him through the stray hold period.
If no family comes forward to claim him, they have opened up their home and hearts to become his forever family. ❤️
For now, they’ve named him Timber, and he has settled in amazingly with both the family and their resident dog.
We absolutely love happy endings like this and are so grateful for families willing to give a stray dog a safe place to land while we search for owners. Sometimes taking a chance on a stray turns into finding the perfect addition to your family, and it looks like Timber has found exactly where he belongs. 🐾💕

Please meet Maggie! 🐾
Maggie is currently being fostered by Cheryl while she decompresses, receives the care she needs, and prepares for the next chapter of her journey.
When the time is right, Maggie will be looking for her very own forever home. ❤️
Stay tuned for more updates on this sweet girl as she settles in and begins her new life!

🌟 May Recovery Highlight 🌟
May kept our team moving with a wide variety of cases, from lost family pets to strays, newly adopted dogs, and dogs displaced while away from home. 🐾
Throughout the month, 29 dogs were safely recovered through a combination of strategic recovery efforts, community involvement, and dedicated volunteers. Each case presented its own unique circumstances, but every dog was ultimately brought to safety.
In addition to hands-on recoveries, we continued assisting families by providing individualized guidance, recovery planning, and access to our toolbox of proven lost dog recovery resources. Our goal remains the same with every case: helping families make informed decisions that give their dog the best opportunity to return home safely.
🌎 Communities We Assisted This Month:
• Troutdale • St. John’s • Colton • Tigard • Clatskanie • Happy Valley • N/NE/SE/NW/SW Portland
• Beaverton • Gales Creek • Aumsville • Newberg • Sandy • Wilsonville • Milwaukie • Sherwood • Banks
✨ Recovery Breakdown:
🐾 12 dogs lost from home
🐾 7 stray dogs brought to safety
🐾 3 dogs escaped while with a sitter
🐾 1 wilderness recovery
🐾 4 dogs lost after jumping from vehicles, during transport, or while away from home
🐾 2 newly adopted dogs became lost
💛 None of these recoveries happen alone. Thank you to the families who trusted the process, the community members who reported sightings, and our dedicated volunteers who spent countless hours helping bring these dogs to safety.
Together, we continue proving that every dog deserves a chance to make it home. 🐾✨

We wanted to let everyone know that for the next few weeks we will not be taking on any new cases. We will still be responding to requests for help and providing our toolbox steps and guidance to anyone who reaches out.
Kimber had surgery and needs to take some time to rest and recover over the next week.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding, patience, and support during this time. Thank you for being such an amazing community. ❤️🐾

🔷Seen in area of S Elwood Rd for at least a week
🔺 Possible McNab mix
🔺 White with black markings
🔺 Male, unaltered
🔺 No microchip
🔺Found report filed Clackamas County
🔺Currently being fostered by Good Samaritan to decompress
Yesterday, May 29, we received a request from Katie to help with a reportedly dumped dog in Colton. She and several neighbors had been seeing this boy for at least a week along S. Elwood Rd.
Our team headed out and set a trap. They stayed until midnight, but he never made an appearance, so they secured the trap open with food inside and left it overnight in hopes he would return.
Just after 5:00 a.m., he was spotted back at the trap. Our team returned at 8:30 a.m. to set it, and by 9:40 a.m. he was safely contained. 🎉
A Good Samaritan has graciously offered to foster him while he decompresses and we work to determine his next steps.
A huge thank you to Katie and the entire Colton community for caring about this sweet boy and reaching out for help. Your compassion made all the difference.
