Kevin Gallagher has joined Woolpert as a senior geospatial advisor. A former USGS associate director for Core Science Systems, Gallagher brings nearly 40 years of federal service and executive leadership experience spanning geospatial strategy, science informatics, technology modernization, and national mapping efforts.

“As governments and organizations around the world increasingly rely on trusted geospatial intelligence to support resilience, infrastructure, security, and resource management, Kevin brings a unique perspective that will help strengthen our international relationships, sharpen our strategic positioning, and elevate how we engage at the executive level globally," said Woolpert Executive Vice President and Global Head of Technology and Innovation Amar Nayegandhi.

As senior geospatial advisor, Gallagher will provide strategic counsel supporting the firm’s long-term growth across federal and international geospatial markets.

“Kevin has long been one of the most respected and influential leaders in the U.S. and international geospatial communities,” said Woolpert Government Solutions Market Director Jeff Lovin. “His leadership at the USGS helped shape national geospatial priorities, modernize science and technology operations, and strengthen collaboration across agencies and industry. His insight, relationships, and understanding of the federal landscape will be invaluable as Woolpert continues expanding its role as a trusted partner supporting mission-critical geospatial programs across the United States and abroad.”

Woolpert and Chance Maritime Conduct First Fully Uncrewed Offshore Hydrographic Survey Off Florida’s Gulf Coast - Woolpert 05/05/2026

Woolpert is conducting its first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey mission for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, deploying multiple uncrewed survey vessels designed and piloted by Chance Maritime Technologies, and equipped with Woolpert’s multibeam sonar to map deep-sea corals and ocean habitats off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.

“Uncrewed vessels allow us to collect high-quality hydrographic data more efficiently and safely, particularly in challenging deep-ocean environments,” Woolpert Program Director David Neff said. “This project demonstrates just how valuable USVs are in expanding our access to critical ocean data while reducing operational risk. We’re proud to support NOAA’s mission and to help set a new precedent for large-scale offshore marine mapping.”

Amsterdam, you were too good to us! That’s a wrap on this year’s Geospatial World Forum.

We were especially proud to hear from our very own Neil Churman, Amar Nayegandhi, Rachel Tidmarsh, and Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse, who brought such thoughtful perspectives to the stage this year.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to connect. It's never lost on us just how special it is to be part of this global geospatial community, and this year’s focus on geospatial as a driver of resilience, equity, and innovation was felt in every conversation.

Until next year!

Geo Week always presents an opportunity to collaborate and partner, but this year’s event was said to have a special buzz about it — “a very good vibe” — due to some key milestones and transformative industry advancements.

“I’ve been coming to Geo Week for more than a dozen years, and it’s great to build on some of the leading trends in the industry,” said Woolpert’s Jeff Lovin, a longtime geospatial industry leader. “Originally the focus was on lidar and then drones and so forth, but this year it was clear that AI is driving the future of the industry. And it’s great to see Woolpert being out in front of that with our GeoAI capabilities.”

Jeff said a huge highlight of Geo Week was celebrating the achievement of one of Woolpert’s biggest clients, the U.S. Geological Survey, with whom he has worked since 1992.

“USGS has been working for 10 years on their 3D Elevation Program, the nation’s first baseline of seamless, high-resolution topographic elevation data,” Jeff said. “Here at this conference, we celebrated the full, first-time coverage of the U.S. 3DEP has been a great partnership between the government and the private sector. Woolpert and several other firms have helped collect all this data for the last 10 years. It’s really helped grow the industry, and it’s a very valuable dataset for the public to share and use.”

Thank you to all who stopped by our booth, participated in our sessions, and attended our event. Cheers to the year ahead!

Woolpert and Saildrone Partner to Deploy Surveyor Uncrewed Surface Vehicle for NOAA Seafloor Mapping Project Off Coast of Mariana Islands - Woolpert 02/24/2026

“By integrating Saildrone’s mission portal with Woolpert’s automated survey production environment, we gain real-time visibility into acquisition progress and data quality — especially in deep-water regions that were once difficult and costly to access,” Woolpert Maritime Market Director David Neff, C.H. said. “This collaboration shows how uncrewed systems and smart partnerships can expand what’s possible in ocean mapping.”

The data collected will be used by NOAA to help enhance its understanding of sensitive habitats, marine geohazards, oceanographic conditions, seafloor composition, and ecosystem management within the U.S. exclusive economic zone in the vicinity of the Mariana Islands.

“The maritime economy is largely invisible to most Americans, but it’s fundamental to the functioning of our economy today,” said Captain Sam Greenaway, chief of the Hydrographic Services Division for the NOAA Office of Coast Survey. “Whether you think about grain exports coming down the Mississippi River and heading overseas, or oil moving from, say, Valdez down to a refinery on the West Coast, the supply chains are so important to every aspect of our economy, and it’s critical that we have updated navigational products to support that.”

The city of Valdez, Alaska is home to the northernmost ice-free port in the United States and sits in a region shaped by frequent seismic activity. These events can dramatically, and sometimes subtly, alter the landscape, both on land and beneath the water’s surface.

To identify submerged hazards and better manage the impacts of natural disasters, the city leveraged a federal grant to partner with NOAA on a new comprehensive hydrographic survey of Port Valdez and Valdez Glacier Lake. NOAA engaged Woolpert to collect the data, which is now being used to advance navigation safety, disaster preparedness, and other critical planning efforts.
