STAR Special Tasks And Rescue

On July 29, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and ESD No. 3 responded to a reported house fire on Linzay Street, in the area of China, Texas.

Deputies arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames and immediately began evacuating people. Two individuals were rescued from the residence and transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Two additional individuals were also removed from the home and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The two individuals that were transported to the hospital have passed away. Their names are not being released at this time. Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson has ordered autopsies.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
