Join Mrs. Carrie for two days of fun in the kitchen!
Recipe testing - Kitchen skills - Food safety - Heaps of fun!

This year's Summer Cooking Club will take place over two days: Tuesday July 14 and Wednesday July 15.

Registration for the class is $30 per participant.

9:00 AM - 2:00 PM each day.

Open to rising 4th - 8th Graders.

Classes held at the Appling County Extension Education Building @ 85 S Oak Street in Baxley.

The Appling County 4-H BB Team has had a wonderful season and is gearing up for an exciting summer as they head to Daisy Nationals in Arkansas later in July! The team is always looking for ways to "Make the Best Better" and needs your help to do so! The BB Team will hold a car wash fundraiser at our local O'Reily Auto Parts and invites YOU to stop by for a fresh car wash as you head into all your summer adventures! ☀️🌈

Carrie was out Cooking with Herbs again this week! This time she was at the Wayne County Library. Participants learned about herb flavors, preparation, storage, and exciting ways to use them. They sampled yummy, herby treats - then got to pot up their own plant to take home. UGA Extension - Wayne County

Earlier this Spring, we celebrated Earth Day by observing some of the most beautiful roses grown here in Appling County during the Rose Show! 🌹

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 51st Rose Show by sharing your lovely flowers! A special thanks to Pineland Bank for partnering once again for this wonderful contest. Thank you, also, to the wonderful team at Lakeview Retirement Center for allowing us to donate the show roses to their residents! 💐

Congratulations to the 51st Rose Show Winners! They each received their award ribbons and certificates at the contest and will receive their prize rose bush in Spring 2027!

With 25 total roses entered this year, it was a joy to see the beautiful varieties fill Pineland Bank with vibrant colors of Spring!

It would not have been possible without our event judges, as well -- Mrs. Jan Williams and Mrs. Kaye White, both of Vidalia, GA. We look forward to future Rose Shows and hope you will join us next year!

Have a passion for working with animals? Cows, hogs, goats, rabbits, horses.....and more!! Showing livestock is a great opportunity for youth to gain skills in independence, responsibility, and understanding of principles for ethically raising livestock animals! Livestock opportunities for the upcoming school year are open to youth in rising 1st - 12th grades. Eligibility may vary per species.

If you are interested in learning more about livestock opportunities for the 2026-2027 school year, join us Thursday, May 28th for the Spring New & Returning Livestock Exhibitor Meeting! We hope to see you there!

Yoga 4 Kids (every third Wednesday of the month at 4:00) is teaching children how to improve and sync the mind and body.

Our Family & Consumer Sciences Agent had a great time at the Appling County Farmer's Market this past Saturday talking with visitors about cooking with herbs. Afterward we sampled oregano marinated chicken, tzatziki, basil pesto, fruit and mint infused water, and sugar cookies enhanced with rosemary and orange zest.... proving that cooking with herbs makes everything better.

Appling County Extension and Appling County Young Farmers will be offering 3 “Summer Canning & Planning” classes at the Appling Co. Canning Plant. Each class includes a demonstration to show how easily you can preserve summer produce at the canning plant and demonstrations of fun and festive recipes using the preserved produce that you can enjoy all year long! These classes are perfect for seasoned “canners” or anyone eager to learn the process!

Event dates and featured vegetable:
• June 9: "Pleasing Peas" @ 5:30 p.m.
• June 23: "Tasty Tomatoes" @ 5:30 p.m.
• July 7: "Perfect Peanuts" @ 5:30 p.m.
