Over the past few weeks, after casting his vote early, Major Vernon Thomas was away serving our country with the United States Army Reserve.
He participated in intensive training at Fort Polk, designed to prepare him for combat, humanitarian, and intelligence operations if needed in a deployed environment.
As he returns home, we pause to honor the men and women who never made it home.
On this Memorial Day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation and extend our gratitude to every service member and military family carrying the weight of that service each day.
Service. Duty. Sacrifice.
Like his grandfathers before him who served in WWII, those are not just words to Vernon Thomas. They are part of his life.

Last night, Vernon Wesley Thomas, Esq. had the honor of giving his father his flowers.
Vernon Palmer Thomas, Esq. was posthumously inducted into the Southern University Law Center Hall of Fame.
This moment was bigger than recognition. It was about legacy, service, and the lasting impact of a man who left his mark on his family, his profession, and his community.
To watch a son stand and honor his father in this way was powerful.
We are proud of Vernon. We are grateful for the life and example of his father. And we honor a legacy that still speaks.
