My best friend sent me this of my niece Rylee!!!!! And it pretty much makes my eyes water….. because I was once that same little black girl looking at the screen, the difference is there was no one like me there in this matter.
The funny thing is I fought working in the kitchen for YEARS, yet my true calling was always a forefront in my life. The representation of black women in the kitchen was only existent in the “home aspect” and most of any black people working in kitchens on tv were overworked and portrayed somewhat “dirty.”
If I wanted anything the most out of this experience…. it was to hopefully be an inspiration/representation to all the little black girls and boys in the world!!! To show that yes you too can do some amazing things in the kitchen!!!! Professionally! I think would be in agreement!!! Especially in this day and age….. we can’t and won’t give up on hope!!!!
