There are moments when silence is not an option.

What happened was not comedy. It was not harmless commentary. It was a deliberate attempt to demean a Black woman who has served this country with excellence, grace, and dignity.

Michelle Obama deserves respect. Black women deserve respect.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to speak clearly when rhetoric crosses the line from disagreement into disrespect and dehumanization.

I stand with Michelle Obama.
I stand with Black women.
I stand for truth, dignity, and respect.

Representative Terry Landry, Jr. will join fellow lawmakers for the 2026 Legislative Session Recap on June 24th, sharing updates from the Capitol and highlighting the work moving District 67 and communities across Louisiana forward.

One major piece of legislation Rep. Landry championed this session is House Bill 1194, which strengthens Louisiana’s Healthy Food Retail Act by expanding support for healthy food financing programs, improving access to affordable fresh food in underserved communities and food deserts, and encouraging economic growth through local food retail development.

This work reflects a larger commitment to public health, neighborhood stability, workforce opportunity, and community-centered economic development.

District 67 is proud to be part of the conversation.

In our first year serving District 67, the work has been rooted in one clear commitment: to fight for working families, strengthen our communities, and ensure every voice in District 67 is heard at the Capitol.

This first year has shown both the challenges and the possibilities that exist within state government. From advocating for better educational opportunities and safer communities, to supporting stronger infrastructure and policies that create economic growth, our focus has remained on the people we were elected to serve.

This year has not simply been about passing legislation. It has been about building trust, forming relationships, listening to students, seniors, community leaders, and families, and laying the foundation for meaningful progress in the years ahead.

We are grateful for the support, encouragement, and faith the people of District 67 have placed in us.

The work continues, and we remain committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and purpose.

The Fight for Fair Maps Continues…

Louisiana deserves a congressional map that reflects its people.

Representative Terry Landry Jr. is standing with the citizens of District 67 and communities across the state who showed up, spoke out, and demanded fairness in the redistricting process.

While yesterday was difficult, the fight is not over.

Next week, this bill is expected to be heard in House and Governmental Affairs. We are encouraging citizens to continue showing up, testifying, and making their voices heard.

Democracy works best when the people are present.

Last night, the people spoke.

From 2:30 p.m. Tuesday until nearly 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, hundreds of citizens stood, waited, testified, and demanded fairness in our democracy. Working people. Students. Elders. Faith leaders. Parents. Community advocates. People who knew they might never get called to speak until the middle of the night, but stayed anyway because they understood what was at stake.

And despite overwhelming public support for a congressional map that fairly reflects the people of Louisiana, the Senate & Governmental Affairs Committee voted along straight party lines for a map with 5 Republican districts and only 1 Democratic district.

Let’s be clear: this was never just about lines on a map. This is about whether the voices of Black voters and communities across Louisiana will be fairly represented or intentionally diluted. It is about whether democracy belongs to all of us, or only to those already in power.

I am deeply disappointed in the outcome of tonight’s vote. But I am equally inspired by the people. Because while some may have had the votes in committee, the people had the courage. They showed what democracy is supposed to look like: ordinary citizens sacrificing sleep, time, and comfort to fight for something bigger than themselves.

History has never favored those who stayed silent in the face of injustice. And every major step toward equality in this country was met first with resistance.

So no, we did not win this battle tonight. But this fight is far from over.

To every person who testified, waited, marched, prayed, organized, and refused to leave: thank you. Louisiana saw you. And future generations will remember that when democracy was tested, you showed up and stood firm until the very end.

We keep fighting.

Representation matters.

Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais carries serious implications for voting rights and fair representation across our state.

Every community deserves a fair opportunity to have its voice heard and its vote count.

As your State Representative for District 67, I remain committed to protecting equitable representation and advocating for a system that reflects all people.

The work continues.
