This week, NSBR CEO Dr. Noemi Donoso was honored to join EBR Schools Superintendent LaMont Cole and other community leaders to welcome Teach For America’s newest corps members to Baton Rouge.

Dr. Donoso spoke about the progress our community has made over the past decade to expand access to quality schools, the work that remains ahead, and the important role teachers play in helping every child realize their full potential.

We are excited to welcome these future leaders to Baton Rouge and look forward to the impact they will make in our schools and communities.

A new Advocate article takes a closer look at enrollment trends across Louisiana. The state has lost about 60,000 public school students over the past decade, while charter schools have continued to grow and now serve about 98,000 students statewide, an increase of roughly 65%.

As the landscape continues to shift, families are paying attention and making active choices about where their children go to school.

Louisiana public schools lost 60,000 students in a decade. Enrollment is still falling. Many districts have tried to woo families with new offerings, but it’s rarely been enough to offset the losses. Instead, under-enrolled schools end up cutting programs and positions. When that’s still not enough, schools shutter. “I don’t see any daylight on the horizon.”

Collegiate Baton Rouge recently selected a group of junior and senior young ladies to participate in its inaugural High Tea, an experience designed to cultivate leadership, confidence, and sisterhood. These high-performing scholars engaged in meaningful conversation and reflection, gaining exposure to transformational leadership practices that will support their continued growth as emerging leaders within the school community and beyond.

Through this experience, Collegiate is intentionally creating spaces where young women can see themselves as leaders, operate with excellence, and feel both seen and valued.

The Duchess Circle and High Tea participants stepped into an environment that encouraged them to embrace their identities as leaders, professionals, and Ladies of Distinction.
