Polycystic O***y Syndrome has officially been renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome following publication in The Lancet after years of global collaboration between healthcare professionals and individuals living with the condition.
The updated name more accurately reflects the complex hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive aspects of the condition while moving away from the often misleading focus on “ovarian cysts.”
This change aims to improve awareness, reduce misunderstanding, and better represent the full-body impact of the condition beyond reproductive health alone.
