Beers Detective Agency
All the poop on the world's oddest musical detective. Our mission is simple: Find the perps and bring them to justice. No case too trivial.
Our musical background is beyond compare, and our sources are limited only by time and space. Ronette is our first point of contact. Just give her the bare outline, and we’ll take it from there. We are open 24 hours, 7 days, but not in a row. Jim “Beers” Biersovich, lead investigator
Lena Fangeaux, cyber intelligence
Tina McEntire, intel team leader
Ronette Hallman, secretary
PM LaRose, head flunky
Bradley Porter, maintenance engineer
We regret to inform you that the agency has closed. All reports are still available from the usual outlets.

After a long layoff, the crew got back to work, diving into a backlog of pesky cases. Lena came across this gem from the early '70s by an obscure American group called Bang. It's a catchy tune and shows a lot of promise, although the group ultimately went nowhere. Lots of great sounds fall through the cracks and are only stumbled across by accident, like this one.

The folks at the agency wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for, including Lena's new beau (details are unknown, naturally), Tina's recording contract (blues standards) and Jim's upcoming nuptials to the effervescent Emmie. Oh, we also have to mention the little ones Freddie and Gidget are ready to welcome into their family.
We are planning to take a sabbatical through the end of the year, thanks to our recent fiscally rewarding cases. You'll see us again in 2025, solving more musical crimes in New Orleans and elsewhere. So, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Garage bands proliferated in the '60s and '70s. This one is a good example. Morly Grey produced only one album (1972) but exhibited a proficiency that could have carried them to greater heights. It was an Ohio band, obviously a local favorite because there are a few videos of the group playing live gigs. Simple combo--guitar, bass, drum, but the lead guitar playing is pretty good. Judge for yourself.

It doesn't get much more obscure than this mid-'60s psychedelic band from Austin called the 13th Floor Elevators. This no-hit wonder produced a sound that was much like other bands of the day but never had a breakthrough. Here's some cheesy footage of a badly lip-synced tune from the group's first album.

Head gofer here. Beers went on vacation with Freddie and put me in charge. Well, not actually, but Lena and Tina are fighting over who's second in command, so I stepped into the breach. Beers probably considers everybody equals, but that's not gonna work with two strong-willed women competing for supremacy. Anyway, I hope he's enjoying some relaxation in the mountains. It's apparently Freddie's last getaway before the baby arrives, so I'm certain he's making good use of his time off. Well, not certain...

Our head gofer just returned from the printers with the initial run of our new case history. This one has it all--murder, music, mayhem, madness. We knew little about New Orleans native Louis Armstrong but came away with a better understanding of his importance to the city's music scene. Widespread distribution of this report starts in September.

Tina was quite taken with this tune from the mid-'70s called Expectation. She was surprised to learn that the band that produced it, Ache, was Danish. Tina said she wants to work this song into her occasional gigs in the Quarter.

Music is our game, the more obscure the better. Continuing our exploration of the rocking '70s, we came across a short-lived British group named Capabaility Brown, after a famous English gardener and landscape architect. This group specializes in sound landscapes, some of which are quite catchy. They make nice use of the wah-wah pedal on this tune.
