Commissioner Temple received a warm welcome today before he addressed members of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals - NABIP.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: He gave an overview of the Louisiana insurance market including trends in homeowners, health coverage and auto.
⬆️ Health: Individual market is facing an average rate increase of 18.6% for 2027.
⬇️ Homeowners: Licensing new companies and seeing a slight decrease in the average rate. Indicators are showing an improving market.
↕️ Auto: An overall decrease in rates for the private passenger market … but offset by 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨.𝗦. Key cost drivers are excessive litigation + high bodily injury claims.

𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝘆, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 $𝟮𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀
𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀: Gov. Jeff Landry joined Commissioner Temple today to announce an additional $20 million is being allocated to help residents in coastal Louisiana add a Fortified roof to their home. This new funding brings the total amount of new funding for Fortified roofs – in 2026 alone – to $100 million.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: “This is Louisiana’s future for affordable homeowner’s insurance … especially in coastal Louisiana,” said Commissioner Temple.

The NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory on 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗙𝗮𝘆, located several hundred miles southwest of the Azores. Here’s what you need to know:
• Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 7 days.
• Does not appear to pose a threat to land.
• There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, and
• Fay will likely dissipate by the end of the week.
