Last month we celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new Outdoor Classroom & Amphitheater at !
Perched on Southern University’s historic bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, the Outdoor Classroom & Amphitheater creates a new space for learning and campus events. Terraced seating and berms accommodate more than 1,000 people, while a stage framed by historic live oaks opens to views of the river and sunset.
The seating terrace paving patterns draw inspiration from traditional African artwork in the nearby Southern University Museum of Art. Above the stage, a sculptural structure references the University’s Historic Bell. Once part of Kernan Plantation (the land on which the University is located), the Bell was originally “used by the plantation owner to summon his black slave workers to the fields,” but it was later reclaimed by President Dr. Joseph Samuel Clark “as an instrument and symbol of rebirth to assemble and awaken students and faculty members to the opportunities of a new day – students to the classroom to pursue an education.”
This has been an exciting project at our office and we are excited to watch the faculty, staff, students & community members use this new amenity on campus for years to come!

🌳 Phase One of the I-10/12 Split replanting is complete! 🌳
& partnered to begin enhancing the main and highly trafficked corridor into Baton Rouge and CARBO is thrilled to have been a part of the team to see this vision begin becoming reality!
Based on a master plan that our team created, 76 native canopy trees were planted last month and 100s more will be installed over the next two years!
“Working alongside Baton Rouge Green allowed us to approach the interchange design with a focus on marrying environmental stewardship with bold, intentional design. We wanted to move beyond traditional highway landscaping to create a high-performing ecosystem that manages the site’s challenges while offering a lush, welcoming ‘Green’ gateway to everyone entering the Capital Region. It’s an honor to contribute to a project that brings design and long-term ecological health together.”

We are thrilled to announce that our managing partner, Shannon Blakeman, was elected to the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows!
ASLA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional contributions to the landscape architecture profession and society at large. Election to the ASLA Council of Fellows is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members and is based on works, leadership/management, knowledge and service.
We are so proud of Shannon and the investiture ceremony was the perfect event to conclude our wonderful weekend at the ASLA conference in NOLA.
Swipe to see some shots of the CARBO crew out and about at the conference. It was a fun few days of attending lectures by our peers, presenting at field sessions, and volunteering at the host booth!
You can read more about Shannon and the other Fellows that were elevated this year here: https://www.asla.org/ContentDetail.aspx?id=67281
