Grad Spotlight- 🎓Hampton University grad, and one of very own Historically Black Since campus ambassadors

Livingstone College is using its HBCU mission to create a pathway for students aging out of foster care. The Salisbury, North Carolina HBCU has partnered with Home4Me, a nonprofit focused on providing hope, opportunities, mentoring, and education for teens in foster care.

—Through the H.O.P.E. Emancipation Project, qualified students can receive up to $35,000 in support, which may cover tuition, on-campus housing, meal plans, mental health services, and access to a dedicated success coach.

The program is personal for Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony J. Davis, who is a survivor of the foster care system himself. Davis emancipated himself at 17 and later joined the United States Air Force.

Now, he is helping build a support system for students who may not have the same financial, emotional, or family support many college students rely on.

HBCU Alum Fun Fact- 💡Did you know that a Central State University alum and chemist, Dennis W. Weatherby, co-created the formula for Cascade dishwashing detergent?!

- He graduated from CSU with a degree in Chemistry in 1982, and went on to work for Proctor and Gamble . At the age of 27, he was given the opportunity to lead a team to create a new consumer product for the company, which led to Cascade.

Weatherby received his patent in 1987
