Summer is a time for kids to play, explore, and grow. But when school is out, many children lose access to the nutritious meals they depend on during the school year.

Feeding Louisiana, Feeding America, and our statewide network of food banks to help connect children and families with food resources throughout the summer months. Together, we support programs that help ensure kids have access to nutritious meals when school cafeterias are closed.

This National Dairy Month, let's raise a glass to one of nature's most complete nutritional packages: milk!

With 13 essential nutrients in every glass - including calcium, vitamin D, protein, potassium, and vitamin B12 - milk helps provide growing kids with the building blocks they need for strong bones, healthy development, and everyday energy!

But here in Louisiana, 1 in 5 children lives in a household that struggles to put enough food on the table. When families have to stretch every dollar, nutrient-dense foods like milk are often the first to go - not because parents don't want them, but because they're out of reach.

Hunger isn't just about empty plates. It's about missing nutrients during the years they matter most.

Today, we're recognizing the role milk plays in childhood nutrition - and the federal programs like WIC, school meals, and SNAP that help Louisiana families access it. Learn more about hunger in Louisiana at feedinglouisiana.org.

Want to see how a day of powerful advocacy comes together? Here is a breakdown of how our network, partners, and ambassadors moved the needle for food security at the 2026 Louisiana Anto-Hunger Day at the Capitol...

The Kickoff - We started the morning in the Capitol Rotunda, welcoming advocates from across the state, handing out gear, and prepared for a packed day of action.

Voices of Change in the Gardens - We took to the Capitol Gardens for our official Press Conference to share the critical reality of hunger in our state and the policies needed to fix it. A huge thank you to our incredible lineup of speakers:
Martha Marak, CEO of the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana
April Brown, Baton Rouge Community College Pantry Director
Taylor Chapman, BRCC student hunger advocate
Rhonda Jackson, Director of No Kid Hungry Louisiana

Knowledge is Power - Our afternoon was dedicated to deep-dive training sessions. Advocates gathered at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library for Policy 101 and network alignment, while others met inside the Governor's Press Room to prep for legislative meetings.

Taking the Floor - Armed with data, lived experience, and passion, our advocates flooded the Capitol to meet directly with legislators, view committee sessions, and celebrate official resolution recognitions on the floor.

From trainings to the legislative floor, every moment was a step closer to a hunger-free Louisiana. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this unforgettable day! 💪

What an incredible turnout for the 2026 Louisiana Anti-Hunger Day at the Capitol! We were honored to stand alongside our statewide network of food banks, local farmers, advocates, and dedicated partners to champion the vital programs that keep our neighbors fed.

It was a day spent standing up for our communities...
A day to be a collective voice in the fight against hunger...
A day to prove that a stronger Louisiana starts with a seat at the table! 🤝

A special thank you to our incredible sponsors who helped make this day possible: Save the Children US, Invest in Louisiana, and No Kid Hungry Louisiana. Your partnership and shared commitment to ending food insecurity are invaluable to this movement!

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke out, and shared their passion. The energy was incredible... Now, let’s turn that momentum into lasting change and get to work!
