"My daughter, Gabriela, made the decision to become an organ donor just 5 months before a car accident that took her life. She was such a selfless and loving human being. She had the honor of saving 5 lives and giving two people the gift of sight. We decided to follow through with her wishes, as she dreamed of becoming a clinical oncologist in order to save lives. She was able to fulfill her dreams of saving lives through organ donation. This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming AHEC students to the Baton Rouge Regional Eye Bank for an inside look at the life-changing impact of eye donation.

Students began their visit with an introduction to our mission from Development Director, Jamie, learning how one generous donor can restore sight and transform lives. They then toured our laboratory with Technical Director, Dora, where they had the opportunity to see corneal tissue samples and learn about the recovery, evaluation, and preservation process firsthand.

We're grateful for the opportunity to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals and inspire a deeper understanding of the gift of sight. Thank you to AHEC and all of the students who spent part of their summer learning with us! 💙👁️
