🦷🐾 Healthy Teeth = A Healthier Pet! 🐾🦷

Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall well-being! Just like us, pets can develop plaque, tartar, and gum disease without regular dental care.

A dental prophylaxis is a professional dental cleaning performed under general anesthesia. This allows our veterinary team to thoroughly examine your pet’s mouth and provide a complete cleaning, including:
-Dental radiographs (X-rays)-Scaling to remove plaque and tartar
-Polishing to smooth the teeth
-Probing to evaluate gum health
-Extractions or additional dental treatment when needed

Your pet’s teeth and oral health are evaluated during their annual wellness examination. However, dental disease can develop between visits, so it’s important to watch for signs of oral discomfort, including: dropping food while eating, excessive drooling, pawing at the face or mouth, bleeding from the mouth, bad or foul-smelling breath, and changes in eating habits or difficulty chewing.

🏠 What can you do at home?
Daily tooth brushing is the best way to help maintain your pet’s oral health. Use pet-safe toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush—never human toothpaste.

We know that daily brushing can be challenging! Thankfully, there are other options, including dental chews and specially formulated dental diets. Look for products approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC). The VOHC evaluates scientific evidence for products designed to help reduce plaque and/or tartar accumulation.

🐾 Join us in observing World Rabies Day! 🌎

World Rabies Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and unite global efforts toward rabies elimination. Eliminating rabies requires collaboration throughout our communities—from responsible pet ownership and vaccination to public education and wildlife awareness.

Rabies is one of the deadliest zoonotic diseases in the world. Once clinical signs develop, rabies is nearly 100% fatal. While dogs are responsible for the vast majority of human rabies cases worldwide, wildlife remains an important source of rabies exposure in animals.

In the United States, commonly affected wildlife species include bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. An unexpected encounter with wildlife—even one that may seem harmless—can expose your pet to rabies through a bite or other contact.

You may not always be able to prevent these encounters, but you can help protect your pet through vaccination. Rabies vaccination is highly effective and is one of the most important ways to protect your pet, your family, and your community from this deadly disease.

Don’t wait until an exposure happens to think about rabies prevention. Make sure your pet’s rabies vaccination is current. If you’re unsure of your pet’s vaccination status, contact our team—we’re happy to help! ❤️

💡 Tip: Keep your emergency supplies together in a waterproof, easy-to-grab container and check them regularly to make sure food, medications, and other supplies haven't expired.
And don't forget—make sure your pet's microchip information and ID tags are up to date! 🐶🐱
