On September 1, GGI joined Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful aboard the Creole Queen in New Orleans to launch two GPS litter trackers into the Mississippi River.

Designed to mimic floating trash, each tracker reports its location every 15 minutes, allowing students and communities to follow the journey of litter through Louisiana’s waterways and toward the Gulf.

Through this project, GGI is helping students use GIS, science, and technology to better understand litter movement, waterway health, and the real-world impact of environmental choices.

Congratulations to Anya Trutschl from Caddo Parish Magnet High School on placing in the Louisiana: Mapped StoryMap Competition, High School Division!

Anya earned a $100 award and statewide recognition for her entry, built using ArcGIS StoryMaps, powered by Esri. The GGI team made the trip to Shreveport to present the award in person and it was a moment worth every mile.

Caddo Parish Magnet is one of Louisiana's most decorated academic institutions, and Anya's work in this competition is a perfect reflection of the caliber of student that school produces. We are proud to have played a role in her journey.

Congratulations to Jack Dangermond, founder and president of Esri, on being named to the Forbes 250: America's Greatest Innovators.

For those who may not know the name, Jack Dangermond is the reason GIS technology exists in the form it does today. Since founding Esri in 1969, he has built the world's leading geographic information system platform, one that is now used by hundreds of thousands of organizations across the globe, from governments and nonprofits to schools and environmental agencies.

At GGI, we use Esri tools every single day. ArcGIS StoryMaps, ArcGIS Online, National Geographic MapMaker all exist because of Jack Dangermond's vision.

This recognition is well deserved. Congratulations, Jack.
