Phew it’s been a rough couple days. Working from home and parenting solo at the same time is not for the weak of heart. My sweet daughter has a hard time playing by herself and her brother doesn’t always want to play with her. So today…. I made her a scavenger hunt!!! It backfired a little. But it still provided her at least twenty minutes of entertainment! 🤣🤣🤣

Duplo block triads virtual lesson edition!!!! I had no idea if this would work.
And it did. ☺️
We combined learning a new piece with reviewing, key signatures, minor scales, triads and their inversions and primary chords.
Reviewing theory doesn’t have to be seperate.
Combining review with learning a new piece builds:
1. Skill knowledge
2. Analytical skills
3. The importance of studying a piece before “just playing” it
4. Confidence
Because he was virtual he didn’t get the motor skills benefit of moving the block to make the triad, but he had to tell me what to move and what to write. Another skill reviewed… ☺️

Kids still sleeping and some nice quiet mama time drinking mushroom coffee and reading about neuroscience and music (while sitting on a heating pad cause I hurt my butt) ✅
Perfect start to the day. It’s gonna be a good one. ☺️

How many ways can you think of to use building blocks? I made both of these literally during the lesson and they were super fun and did a great job reviewing the respective skills.
Slide 1: Ear Training plus Rhythmic notation plus learning metric counting
⚡️I played a rhythm the student tapped back (on the big drum because drums are fun)
⚡️Student writes the rhythm on the blocks
⚡️This was her first lesson in metric counting so first we used our familiar counting system then I showed her how to count metrically. The k***s in the blocks helped know where to place the beats and the corresponding numbers.
Slides 2-4 Writing Triads plus learning key signatures
⚡️First we used the Decide Now app to pick a key.
⚡️Play the scale
⚡️Write the key signature on the staff board
⚡️Using the the single blocks write the names of the notes for the tonic, subdominant, and dominant triads.
⚡️Not shown (I think I forgot take a picture), practice inverting the chords. My fellow pedagogy geeks will love this one. I’ll share a video of it later. It really tests their knowledge of how to invert the chord by using their kinesthetic sense of learning.

Oh what to do when a child comes in so tired that absolutely NOTHING at the keyboard can be accomplished. Frustrating?

It’s voting day!!!!!
My family and I are because he has the integrity, experience, and grit to turn this country right side up. He will fight for normal people. He is not corrupted by this current political climate. He will fight for working class Americans. He will fight for fair and affordable healthcare. He will fight for what good and right for ALL people, not just a select few.

Piano by Megan handbooks have been going out this week and I am so proud of myself for finally doing this. I’ve done a studio policy for years but it was always just nuts and bolts. Not a lot of detail. I finally decided to go a little deeper and I just hope at least one person reads it! 🤣.

We love our !!! M just did her Kindergarten and it was so adorable. She is the cutest little flamingo you have ever seen. HUGE shout out to the arts teachers. They do an AMAZING job with the littles and the bigs at our school. It’s Teacher Appreciation week. Let’s send a little extra to our fabulous arts crew at !
