In the second year of the curriculum, the department teaches pharmacology and in the third year, a course in clinical toxicology.

Comparative Biomedical Sciences is a department in the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine that performs research and academic instruction in cell and molecular biology, anatomy, and a host of related subject areas. Within the professional curriculum, the department teaches the bulk of the courses offered to the first year veterinary students, courses that include physiology,

Dr. Michelle Osborn in her element! LSU Vet Med was excited to host 80 young men from local high schools on April 11 in partnership with 100 Black Men of Baton Rouge. This program, led by our Student Association of Black Veterinarians (SABV), began in 2022 and gives students a firsthand look at careers in veterinary medicine. During their visit, students participated in hands-on activities and rotations, including:

Anatomy
Diagnostic imaging
Bandaging
Cardiology

What started as a community outreach event has evolved into an immersive experience that inspires future veterinarians and builds meaningful connections across our community.

Thank you to our volunteer students, staff, faculty, and partners who make this program possible!

Look at our CBS faulty and students partnering up!

Congratulations to the ImmunoTech Group at LSU Vet Med for being honored by LSU through the We Build Teams That Win employee recognition program. The team was celebrated at a recent LSU baseball game, recognizing their outstanding contributions and teamwork.

Led by Dr. Weishan Huang, Associate Professor of Immunology, the 15-member team includes faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, and support staff. The team focuses on regulating immune memory and developing immunotherapies for vaccines, infections and cancer, and is part of the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at LSU Vet Med under the direction of Dr. Gus Kousoulas.

Congratulations to the entire ImmunoTech Group on this well-deserved recognition!

LSU Vet Med researchers are advancing groundbreaking cancer discoveries that could transform treatment for both animals and people. Supported by an $11 million federal grant, a newly approved Center for Comparative Oncology, and more, LSU Vet Med is helping bridge the gap between laboratory discovery and lifesaving clinical treatments. This National Cancer Research Month, we celebrate the researchers, clinicians, and students working together to change the future of cancer treatment.

Congratulations to CBS' Graduate Student, Steven R. Bradley, he has been accepted to the highly competitive Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) course, Drosophila Neurobiology: Genes, Circuits & Behavior for Summer 2026. This course was heavily oversubscribed, and Steven was initially placed on the waitlist before being selected when a position became available.
This intensive course brings together outstanding graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and investigators from around the world for advanced training in modern Drosophila neurobiology. Participants receive hands-on instruction in state-of-the-art approaches for studying neural circuits, behavior, genetics, imaging, and functional analysis of the nervous system.
For more than a century, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has been one of the world's premier centers for biological research and scientific training. Its courses have helped train generations of scientists and have played a significant role in advancing genetics, neuroscience, and molecular biology. We are thrilled to congratulate Steven on being selected for a CSHL course—a milestone that reflects his perseverance and dedication. Wishing him an exciting and enriching experience at Cold Spring Harbor!

Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to invite you to participate in the International Symposium on Epigenetic Inheritance, taking place July 15–17 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
This interdisciplinary meeting will bring together researchers, trainees, and thought leaders to discuss emerging discoveries in epigenetic inheritance across model systems, evolution, and human health.
Symposium themes include:
• Germline mechanisms of epigenetic transmission
• RNA-mediated and chromatin-based inheritance
• Plasticity and reprogramming in offspring
• Evolutionary consequences of non-genetic inheritance
• Epigenetic variation in human health and disease
We are honored to feature a keynote presentation from Dr. Isabelle Mansuy (University of Zurich):
“How Life Experiences Can Influence Us and Our Descendants: An Epigenetic Perspective”
We warmly encourage students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and investigators to submit abstracts presenting their latest research. This symposium offers an exciting opportunity to share your work, engage with leaders in the field, and foster new collaborations within the epigenetics community.
Whether your research focuses on fundamental mechanisms, translational biology, development, inheritance, evolution, or disease, we welcome your contributions.
Join us in Baton Rouge this July to explore the future of epigenetic inheritance research.
Please feel free to share this announcement with colleagues, trainees, and collaborators who may be interested.
